An autocratic boss always criticises, never forgets negative performance and takes good performance for granted. It might have worked some decades earlier, but nowadays, leaders have to re- inforce the good things instead of harping on their  inefficiency.

donhornsby's curator insight, September 11, 2014 2:13 PM

(From the articles): One of your most important tasks as a team leader is to set ambitious but achievable goals with your team’s input. Make clear what the team is working toward and how you expect it to get there. By setting these goals early on, the group’s decision making will be clearer and more efficient, and you’ll lay the framework of holding team members accountable. Many managers inherit their teams, which often means they aren’t creating new goals, but clarifying existing ones. “It’s actually rare that someone gets to come in and redefine the goals for the group in a profound way,” says Watkins. In those instances, your challenge as a manager is to reorganize roles or rethink strategies to best achieve the goals at hand.

15 Qualities Of A Transformational Change Agent

15 Qualities Of A Transformational Change Agent | Leader, Manager, Administrator | Scoop.it
My colleagues and I are often asked to ‘decode’ the process of business transformation and provide the repeatable ‘formula’ for success. I guess this is understandable given that widely quoted statistic – you know the one – that 70% of all change efforts fail. In a way, this interest in our work is very humbling.… Read the rest of this post & join the discussion →

Are you a transformational Change Agent?  Clarifying post

Ivon Prefontaine, PhD's curator insight, June 13, 2014 11:29 AM

Transforming leadership and other leading which is related i.e. adaptive and servant are so complex they cannot be turned into 7 habits, 3 feature, and 15 qualities. What happens is they turn into easy talking points which fill the air and resolve nothing. That is why 70% of change efforts (fixed and linear plans are counter to real change) fail. We think we can create formula and recipes for change when it requires being present in the planning and change process in a dialogic manner.

Why Leaders Are Poor Communicators

Oh dear... as a leader you have to be a great story teller and motivator and that goes nowhere without communications.

donhornsby's curator insight, March 14, 2014 10:27 AM

(From the Article)  Leaders can find it simpler to avoid communicating, at least until they have everything figured out. So they retrench and put off connecting on key issues, which can quickly get out regardless as rumors. Or they rely on email or other written communications that, while better than nothing, can leave employees with more questions than answers.

Leaders, like all of us, want to do the activities that they feel good and successful at doing. Communications can be difficult to get right, and though important, all too easy to avoid – especially when you get to call the shots.
