Starting next year, the IDF Homefront Command will provide all 10th-grade Ihigh school students in Israel with search and rescue and firefighting training. At the end of the program, the students will be certified as independent first responders, and they will be certified to provide aid in times of disaster such as earthquakes or buildings collapsing during wartime until the Homefront Command can be scrambled to the scene.

In Pirke Avot 6:6, we read: "The Torah is greater than the priesthood and than royalty, seeing that royalty is acquired through 30 virtues, the priesthood twenty-four, while the Torah is acquired through 48 virtues." These 48 Jewish virtues or values (in Hebrew middot, the plural form of middah) serve as the basis for the study of a variety of Jewish texts. The Shoolman School of Graduate Jewish Education at Hebrew College is excited to announce that for the fourth year running, it has received a generous grant to continue funding its Midcareer Fellowship program. The Midcareer Fellowship, which currently serves 45 students, is for new students who enroll in the Master of Jewish Education program and commit to earning 12 credits a year over the course of three years. Fellows receive an annual financial-aid award of up to 65 percent.

At Aleh Negev-Nahalat Eran —a rehabilitation village in southern Israel that serves people with severe disabilities—residents benefit from green therapy, which uses gardening and nature to help give the special needs community a higher quality of life. Green therapy participants are brought to a greenhouse on the Aleh Negev campus, where they are greeted with flowers, shrubs, and herbs that they work to plant and care for. It is also a therapeutic haven where all of the senses are stimulated.
