Jesse Gonder

Jesse Lemar Gonder (January 20, 1936 - November 14, 2004) was an American professional baseball player. A catcher, he appeared in 395 games in the Major Leagues over eight seasons ( 1960- 1967) for the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Milwaukee Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates.

The desire for a Cuban Team was to be present in a baseball tournament in the United States , came from the era (1899-1905) that Abel Linares and " Tinti " Molina toured the U.S. with his All Cubans , to show who were the best pupils in the practice game . In the Negro Leagues name Cuba even used recursively ( remember the New York Cubans , Cuban Stars or Cuban Giants) , but never came to establish a serious management in this sense to the Caribbean country to act in such contests officially. It was the efforts of a group of former Cuban athletes , was headed Baldomero " Merito " Acosta, with support from billionaire George P. Foster participation and celebrated " talent scout " Joseph Joe Cambria , which propelled the appeal to the Twilight Zone . Then mogul Clark Griffith , owner of the Washington Senators , bought shares of Foster, but Merito Acosta continued his duties as president of the club.
