Miss Schirmer's curator insight, October 14, 2013 8:17 PM

"The Lady Is a Tramp" is a 'swing style' show tune from the 1937  musical 'Babes in Arms' .This song is a spoof of New York high society and its strict etiquette. It has become a popular Jazz Standard and recorded by numerous artists over the years....even Lady Gaga!

Ragtime piano was popular in the late 1800's - early 1900's and largely influenced the early Dixieland and New Orleans Jazz styles.
