Beating the heat in Procida visiting the Abbey of Saint Michael

Beating the heat in Procida visiting the Abbey of Saint Michael | Italia Mia | Scoop.it

The Abbey of Saint Michael the Archangel is perched on the highest point of Procida, in the “Terra Murata” surrounded by fortified walls built in the 16th century to protect settlers from pirates. I first spotted the walled section of the island when I sat down to lunch in the port of Corricella. It looked like a dramatic and imposing fortress next to the pretty colours of the lower village [...]

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Procida is one of the Flegrean Islands off the coast of Naples in southern Italy. The island is between Cape Miseno and the island of Ischia. With its tiny satellite island of Vivara, it is a comune of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in the region of Campania.
In case you haven't heard, it is really warm in Procida right now; this week, temperatures are hitting 95°F and the heat traditionally continues into September.
Visiting Procida during the hottest months? For beating the heat in Procida, go to church. Visit the Abbey of Saint Michael it is naturally air-conditioned. Find cooler temperatures and get away from the crowd by pointing toward the terrace of the abbey, with stunning views of the sea.
