Exitticket: Creating Individualized Instruction for Students | Edudemic | IT Training | Scoop.it

"When it comes to crafting individualized instruction for your students, ExitTicket tops the class. Tested against other apps in its category, this app emerged as the fullest-featured piece of exit ticket software I’ve seen. Although indispensable for offering individualized instruction, it also offers the additional advantages of being aligned with national Common Core and Science Standards initiatives. After using it over the course of a week for lesson-planning and student assessment, I found that Exitticket’s features and continuity with educational standards create a seamless experience."

Definitely worth the look. 30 years in, I go back to the opaque projector and the purple inked mimeograph with hand crank.

Amazing what we did with so  much less back then. I don't seem to have enough time today and I feel like I don't get enough done.

4 Ways Technology is Changing How People Learn

4 Ways Technology is Changing How People Learn | IT Training | Scoop.it
When we talk about what changes technology has brought to classrooms across the globe, the answers could basically be never ending. Teachers could talk about things like bringing ease to researching all types of topics, bringing organization (and a lack of physical papers to lose) to the classroom, and making connections for professional development. There …

Putting Students in the Driver's Seat: Technology Projects to Decrease Passivity

Putting Students in the Driver's Seat: Technology Projects to Decrease Passivity | IT Training | Scoop.it
Passivity still seems to be the norm for most college courses: students passively try to learn information from teachers who unwittingly cultivate a passive attitude in their learners. As the subject matter experts, many faculty are reluctant to give up some control. We know the material, there’s a lot to cover, and let’s face it, going the lecture route is often just plain easier for everyone. We “get through” the material, and students aren’t pressed to do anything more than sit back and take notes. Teacher and student thus become complicit in creating a passive learning environment.

In all of this, the role of the teacher remains vital and keeps evolving.

@ivon_ehd1

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, March 21, 2015 1:26 AM

Of course, more and more teachers are using technology today, and any survey will show how active technology, or interactive technology is gaining precendance over static technology. Technology is not just the projector and the white board, rather it is much more than that. While the use of powerpoint and word might be on the decline, current use of technology is aimed at developing online surveys, blogs, google spreadsheets, and google docs. My mentor checks answer sheets, and thesis papers online. She does this for multiple drafts as competently as if she were checking notebooks! The effective use of technology however also depends on back end support from the organisation and institution that encourages the use of technology. This includes software and hardware support to teachers who adhere to the BYOD concept. I have known of organisations that restrict updates of operating systems and antivirus software because they feel that updates might eat into bandwidth. Unfortunately, the BYOD devices of the teachers started to give trouble as lack of updates and patches were not available on time.

M. Fagot-Karcher's curator insight, March 21, 2015 5:08 AM

For an entire school year Hillsborough, New Jersey, educators undertook an experiment, asking: Is the iPad really the best device for interactive learning? Oh my goodness! It's NOT the device, people!!! It's how teachers use the device. However, I do agree that (at least) one of the disadvantages of the iPad is the absence of a keyboard. Is the Chromebook the "better" choice for kids? Well, again, it's not the device but how teachers use and implement student use of the device. . .or book or video or digital content or white board or. . . .

8 Needs For Project-Based Learning In The 21st Century

8 Needs For Project-Based Learning In The 21st Century | IT Training | Scoop.it

"We tend to think of project-based learning as focused on research, planning problem-solving, authenticity, and inquiry. Further, collaboration, resourcefulness, and networking matter too–dozens of characteristics “fit” into project-based learning. Its popularity comes from, among other characteristics, its general flexibility as a curriculum framework. You can do, teach, assess, and connect almost anything within the context of a well-designed project."
