Remember how FCC chair Ajit Pai told everyone that repealing net neutrality protections would boost investment by big telecoms? Remember how the Republican Party told you corporations like big telecoms would invest their big tax breaks? Yeah, about that.

"Verizon reported $17.2 billion of capital expenditures in calendar year 2017, with the net neutrality rules in place the entire year. In 2018, with the net neutrality rules about to come off the books, Verizon says its spending will come in slightly below or above that. Even at the high end of Verizon's forecast, the spending would not exceed its total of $17.8 billion in 2015, another year in which net neutrality rules were in place.

"Capital spending for 2018 will be in the range of $17.0 billion to $17.8 billion, including the commercial launch of 5G," Verizon said today in an announcement of its year-end financial results."

And getting that free tax money is good for one thing—profit.

Twitter has been ignoring its fake account problem for years | Mathew Ingram | Columbia Journalism Review | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it

The New York Times published an article earlier this week describing how a number of celebrities, athletes, and even politicians—including a member of Britain’s House of Lords who is also on Twitter’s board—bought fake Twitter followers. An online company sold fake accounts by the hundreds of thousands, including some that were copies of existing accounts owned by real users.

A follow-up article by the Times suggests Twitter has gotten rid of about a million fake followers following the original story. But this is only the latest in a series of exposes on the black market of fake accounts. Buying followers is a practice that is almost as old as Twitter itself. So why hasn’t anything been done about it until recently? Money.

The FCC Hopes its Empty Dedication to Rural Broadband Will Make You Forget it Killed Net Neutrality | Karl Bode | Motherboard.Vice.com | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it

FCC boss Ajit Pai hopes that a hollow dedication to rural broadband will make Americans forget the agency sold them out on net neutrality.

Since taking office, Pai has routinely insisted that his top priority is closing the digital divide and improving broadband speed and availability. Unfortunately, for those stuck without adequate broadband, his actual policies often undermine this goal.

Since taking office, Pai has eroded programs that bring broadband to the poor, gutted media consolidation rules, helped dismantle broadband privacy protections, killed efforts to bring more competition to the cable box, rushed to the defense of prison monopoly price gouging, passed rules protecting business broadband monopolies, and gutted net neutrality.

And he’s only getting started.

You’ll never have a second chance to make that first impression – which is why your website’s design is undoubtedly one of the most critical things you should pay attention to.

Within 3 seconds, website visitors will decide whether to engage with your website or leave. Even though your website is probably chocked full of quality information that the visitor would be interested in, the general flow and look of your site can be the deal maker or breaker.

FCC Says Releasing 'Jokes' It Wrote About Ajit Pai Colluding With Verizon Would 'Harm' Agency | Dell Cameron | Gizmodo.com

FCC Says Releasing 'Jokes' It Wrote About Ajit Pai Colluding With Verizon Would 'Harm' Agency | Dell Cameron | Gizmodo.com | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it

At its own discretion, the Federal Communications Commission has chosen to block the release of records related to a video produced last year in which FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and a Verizon executive joke about installing a “Verizon puppet” as head of the FCC.

In a letter to Gizmodo last week, the agency said it was withholding the records from the public in order to prevent harm to the agency—an excuse experts say is a flagrant attempt to skirt federal transparency law.

The video was played at an annual dinner hosted by the Federal Communications Bar Association in December, days before the FCC voted to repeal net neutrality protections established under the Obama administration. Gizmodo published a leaked video of Pai’s speech taken from inside the event, where no media cameras were present, on December 8th.
