Google’s Ray Kurzweil predicts how the world will change

Jon Teets's insight:

I like:  "If you’re wearing something like Google Glass, it could annotate reality;"

What may come to mind is little post-it notes all over everything.  I think we can do better.  I think the post-it note can be a post-it object. Or evene better -- a post-it subject.

On the pedestrian side, the receipt and cleaning manual for your sofa could be hovering over it with a youtube video of how to actually clean it.  An arrow could point to the direction where you have the cleaner stored, and how much is left and when you should order some more and how much it will cost.  It might show a record of when you've cleaned the sofa. You could see how much time you've spent sitting on the sofa today and even see what you were doing each of those times.

More imaginitively, the sofa could be in a room that's part of a method of loci place in your memory palace.  Now you'd have items from the palace on the sofa.   There could be a number hovering over the sofa indicating its order in a list of things in the room.  The number could have a font, texture, color and other characteristics to help you remember it; the properties would be part of a larger scheme that would help you remember not only the number, but the items on the sofa.  Mostly you might have people on that sofa, the famous and the infamous from the present and past and from fiction.  They'd be conversing and singing about events and ideas and even lines of poetry you might want to remember, often while acting them out our holding mnemonics which trigger your memory. The could query you to make sure you know what they were on about and fill in the blanks.   Since you put them there, selected the music and colors and texures and scripted the interactions, it's only natural you should rememer it all.

If chairs and tables and television sets and walls and floors and ceilings and everything around us came alive with memory aids we could interact with, our blended reality would not only make us smarter,  but more imaginitive.  We'd be more open to whimsy, more appreciative that the technical, artistic, musical and literary traditions around us bring great joy.  Sharing our augmented worlds with others would not only give us much more insight into who they are and what they care about, but also show us that they have far richer and diverse internal lives than we give them credit for now, chained up in our seperate flat, boring, sepia worlds.

Literal Android: Google develops robots to replace people in manufacturing, retail

Literal Android: Google develops robots to replace people in manufacturing, retail | It's, like, the future, babe! | Scoop.it
Now that the mystery surrounding the elusive Google barges in the San Francisco Bay reported last month has been brought to light, the Silicon Valley giant is announcing another new endeavor: robots.
Jon Teets's insight:

"Google's robotics ambitions and Bezos's drone PR should be a reminder to investors that they are not only investing in the trend lines of the current financials, but in the future vision and broad ambitions of these companies," Ben Schachter, an analyst at Macquarie, wrote in a note to clients sent Wednesday and cited USA Today. "Amazon and Google clearly are going to invest in projects that may not bear fruit for 5-10 years, if at all.”
