Immortality only 20 years away says scientist - Telegraph

Immortality only 20 years away says scientist - Telegraph | Is 50 the New 30! | Scoop.it
Scientist Ray Kurzweil claims humans could become immortal in as little as 20 years' time through nanotechnology and an increased understanding of how the body works.
Paul Thake's insight:

This is the news I've been waiting for. All the more reason to keep up the healthy life-style. Will be grabbing all the info I can lay my hands on as this develops. In twenty years time I'll be 84 - I will get there or die trying. This is VERY achievable, bring it on!

Tally-ho.........

ps: Ray Kurzwell isn't a nut case. US Presidents have asked his advice on future long term trends/advancements - the go to man, no less.

(Plus he's the  chief engineer at Google)

Why it's never too late to exercise

Why it's never too late to exercise | Is 50 the New 30! | Scoop.it
The over-65 age group is less active than any other. But, says Sam Murphy, exercise doesn't have to be difficult - and it can help you live a longer, happier life
Paul Thake's insight:

I turned 65 last Feb - still train six days a week. Twenty minutes with my trusty Bullworker (got my first in 1966) and 1000 pressups (on the stairs in sets of 100) Various other exercises for tummy and legs.

No weights required - takes me about one hour or spread it over the whole day. By the way, there's no need to go to my extremes, 15 mins

would be fine!

How Much Chocolate a Day will Keep Dementia at Bay? | Alzheimers Care Blog | Is 50 the New 30! | Scoop.it
Dark Chocolate’s benefit for the brain is both direct, and indirect through improved heart and blood sugar-related health. Clinical research trials suggest that dark chocolate and pure cocoa are as powerful as tea, red wine and berries in enhancing some aspects of heart health.
Paul Thake's insight:

I know, it beggars belief -  eating chocolate can actually be good for you. (Don't get too carried away!) I love dark chocolate, once a day for me, about a third of an average bar does the trick.

How Preparing for the Singularity in the Present Is Shaping the Future

How Preparing for the Singularity in the Present Is Shaping the Future | Is 50 the New 30! | Scoop.it
We are living in an age of some truly grand challenges. Consider a few. Approximately 41 percent of men and women will develop cancer at some point during their lifetime, according to the National Cancer Institute. Sophisticated data breaches in 2013 resulted in over 57 million records exposed. Economic inequality is translating into significant gaps in longevity, increasingly separating those who may see the arrival of the technological singularity from those who will never have the chance.
Paul Thake's insight:

I know I'm spending a lot of time on this subject, but it really does give people of a certain age hope & a reason to make that effort to keep going. Just think about it - twenty years from now we could all be thumbing our noses at the grim-reaper or at least keeping him at bay for ages. Keep up the training guys!

Paul Thake's insight:

Quick heads-up, last on this list is RED WINE. You guessed it, I really love it.

You do get differing opinions on this with suggested intake,

some advise just a few glasses a week & some say a glass a day. I go for the latter every time. After all it's part of a mediterranean diet and they practically bath in it - proof positive I say! When you think about it the local people in these climates all seem to live to a ripe old age - that's what we're looking for here. Great stuff.
