Create Killer Presentations with Explain Everything

Create Killer Presentations with Explain Everything | IPads, Tech in class room | Scoop.it

Explain Everything is a whiteboard and screencasting app that makes creating interactive lessons a simple proposition. Its full-featured editing options and its import/export functions allow it to stand apart from the other competitors

I don't usually include tools that cost, but Explain Everything is one app I was willing to purchase with my money. It lets you record a presentation and then export is as a mp4 to your camera roll, so you can share it with others. Great for the flipped classroom.

Try Creating Comics to Get Students to Share Stories About Themselves - iPad Apps for School

Try Creating Comics to Get Students to Share Stories About Themselves - iPad Apps for School | IPads, Tech in class room | Scoop.it

"I shared this idea on Free Technology for Teachers earlier today and I’m sharing it here to bring an iPad slant to it. At the beginning of the new school year it can take a while for new students to open up to each other and to you. One way to get them to share stories about themselves is to have them put it into a fun comic story. Through creating comic stories you can have students share favorite stories from their summer vacations. In the process students learn how to use a new tool, practice developing storylines, and they let you in on a little bit of who they are as people. Here are three iPad apps that I like to use to create comic stories."

60 iPad Productivity Apps For Modern Teachers

60 iPad Productivity Apps For Modern Teachers | IPads, Tech in class room | Scoop.it

But technology may be able to help. This list, for example. We’ve offered ideas in the past to helpteachers save time, but those can only do so much. As can these apps, but every little bit helps, yes? Your workload, grade level, school climate, personal organizational habits–even beliefs about what a teacher is supposed to be and do all matter more than an app, but if you’re mobile and connected, you at least have a chance.

From RSS readers to social readers to to-do lists to calendar apps to note-taking and cloud-based document editing and more, this list has to have something that can improve the efficiency of what you do.

Assuming you have an iPad.

Google Docs is a powerful word processing tool that many schools have adopted. As it’s similar to Microsoft Word and other word processing tools, most of its features are intuitive to use. However, in addition to completing many of the functions of a traditional word processor, Google Docs provides even more capabilities that can be invaluable to educators.

Two Wonderful Visual Lists of Educational iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Two Wonderful Visual Lists of Educational iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | IPads, Tech in class room | Scoop.it

"In their attempts to establish a 1:1 program for the year 6 class, St Oliver Plunket has recently held a series of workshops in order to develop their students skills before they were officially given management of their very own devices.

The workshops were particularly centered around teaching students about some tips and tricks for managing their iPad, email etiquette, successful searching and copyright and creative commons. I personally was thrilled by the efforts these people from St Oliver are putting into making their 1:1 program a success and I hope other schools would do the same."

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers

Apps that rise to the top: Tested and approved by teachers | IPads, Tech in class room | Scoop.it

With the thousands of educational apps vying for the attention of busy teachers, it can be hard to sift for the gold. Michelle Luhtala, a savvy librarian from New Canaan High School in Connecticut has crowd-sourced the best, most extensive list of appsvoted on by educators around the country.

“I wanted to make sure we had some flexibility because there’s no one app that’s better than all the others,” Luhtala said. Some apps are best for younger students, others are more complicated, better suited for high school students. Many apps do one thing really well, but aren’t great at everything. Still others are bought, redesigned or just disappear — so it’s always good to know about an array of tools to suit the need at hand.

From Guilt to Google: Experimenting with Tech Tools to Improve Writing Feedback

From Guilt to Google: Experimenting with Tech Tools to Improve Writing Feedback | IPads, Tech in class room | Scoop.it

You know the feeling--that “gotta-get-this-grading-done” robotic trance. The blinding feeling of grading close to 180 essays. The guilt of balancing meaningful feedback without taking three weeks to do it.

I needed to change the tedious and difficult writing process in my classroom. So, I turned to Google tools.

Google scripts and add-ons to Google Drive drastically changed my approach to giving writing feedback. I have been able to quickly develop meaningful “writers workshops”, give individualized feedback throughout the writing process, and provide timely comments to a large student caseload.

With these tools (many of which are included in this list), students are placed in charge of their learning. They engage in meaningful self-reflection, highlight according to criteria, and use academic language to critique their own work. The shift is significant. With Google tools, I can provide ongoing feedback while my students showcase digital responsibility and revise throughout the writing process.

Here are my favorite Google tools that have changed the way I approach writing feedback.
