Plickers Reviews | edshelf | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it
Plickers lets you poll your class for free, without the need for student devices. Just give each student a card (a “paper clicker”), and use your iPhone to scan them to do instant checks-for-understanding, exit tickets, and impromptu polls. Best of all, your data is automatically saved, student-by-student, at plickers.com. Happy teaching!

This looks like an awesome tool for formative assessment with limited technology access.

Texas District Pilots Desmos as Alternative to Graphing Calculators (EdSurge News)

Texas District Pilots Desmos as Alternative to Graphing Calculators (EdSurge News) | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it
“It’s hard to believe, but my students were among the first in the world to do it,” gushes middle school math teacher Cathy Yenca. “And after two test runs prior to testing day, there really weren’t any glitches.”

On April 20th, 600 students attending schools in the Eanes Independent School District in Austin, TX piloted the Desmos Test Mode app during the eighth grade math STAAR assessment. The district provides each student with an iPad for the duration of the school year, which eighth graders can now use in the place of traditional graphing calculators during the exams.

Used Effectively or Simply Used? - Langwitches

Used Effectively or Simply Used? - Langwitches | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it

"Beth Holland shared her presentation “Used Effectively or Simply Used” from the ASCD conference 2015 as a slide deck via Twitter.

The message from her slides caught my attention… I kept thinking about the questions Beth proposes we ask when we walk into a classroom:

* Are students engaged?
* Are students creating artifacts as evidence of their own understanding?
* Are students constructing their own knowledge?
* Are students sharing their learning?
* Are student reflecting on their learning?"

Free Technology for Teachers: Learn to Read by Writing with WriteReader | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it
Learning to read and write don’t have to be independent tasks with a new app called WriteReader, a literacy based learning platform where children from the age of three can create or participate in creating their own books. WriteReader begins by having students create a book and is designed for children to work with adults. The keyboard is specially designed to speak the sound of the letters as they are being typed.

ISTE - 6 elements of a successful iPad implementation

ISTE - 6 elements of a successful iPad implementation | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it

 - As more districts across the United States move to 1:1 initiatives, a common barrier is financial resources, and a common temptation is to regard these initiatives as technology enterprises rather than instructional transformations. In a three-year pilot project, the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) addressed these challenges by implementing a creative approach designed to entice public funders by providing all students with equitable access to digital devices.

Sra. Spanglish: Three Apps, Three Types of Movie Projects

Sra. Spanglish: Three Apps, Three Types of Movie Projects | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it

"A quality five-minute movie project will suck weeks away from your class time, if done right. Then again, with the right technology--a coupla iPads, apps, and Web 2.0 accounts for example--a decent 30-second video can be churned out in a class period often with just the technology half your kids carry in their pockets.

There are three basic categories of movie project: basic non-edited,edited nonscripted, and scripted edited. that more or less align with different levels of assessment: practice, formative, and summative. The products of these project types are also suited to different audiences: self, teacher/peers, public. Since Christmas came in July, and I now have my very own set of 10 class iPads, I've selected an iPad app to focus on for each movie making level."

App Smash - Smashing apps for Modern Foreign Languages

App Smash - Smashing apps for Modern Foreign Languages | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it

"Language learning has to be met with engaging and entertaining lesson objectives that include innovative approaches from the teacher. The iPad can be the perfect tool to employ when trying to achieve this high standard. Combining apps to enhance lingual learning can really bring multi-media MFL magic into the classroom. Smashing all sorts of language apps into the Book Creator app is just one way of doing this! I plan to create a ‘School Talk’ language book that translates key school resources and aspects of day-to-day education into French."

Innovative Online Learning Tools to Use in 2015 | Articles | Noodle

Innovative Online Learning Tools to Use in 2015 | Articles | Noodle | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it
Noodle’s team of education experts investigated the vast array of online learning tools to create this list of the 32 best, most innovative online tools that we think will change the education space in 2015.

We spoke with teachers, tutors, and leaders in the space. We sifted through reviews, awards, and profiles. As we evaluated the available resources to bring you the best, we maintained a strict set of criteria. The selections had to be: designed for high school or college students, user-friendly, in a strong design language, easy to use, and available for free. Among many other factors, each also had to have a solid base of users, a reputation for excellence, and big plans for 2015.

15 iPad Apps to Enhance Students Creativity ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

15 iPad Apps to Enhance Students Creativity ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Technology in the classroom | Scoop.it

"I am revisiting this topic of enhancing students creativity using iPad apps for the second time this year. Almost 10 months ago I featured here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a selection of some great apps http://bit.ly/185Tusc that can be used in class to boost students creative thinking; and today and after having reviewed hundred of new educational apps since that post, I decided to compile an updated version of that list and include some newly featured apps in the category of creativity.

Of course by creativity I mean giving students the chance to take their learning to the next step, one in which they are active producers and participators in knowledge building. Creativity is all about creation and iPad is an ideal device to support this creative thinking. Check out the apps I have handpicked for you today and share with us if you have other suggestions :"
