iPads Changing Classroom Experience for Students, Teachers
Gregory Martin's insight:

Here students are doing the majority of classwork via iPads. I wonder how long it will take textbooks to be outsourced if ever. Many traditional teaching resources such as class journals have been replaced by blogs. This is an excellent way to promote cognitive thinking in the classroom.

Gregory Martin's insight:

Here teachers have opted to allow students to target concepts and provide personal insight on the topic. This replaces typical assignments normally conducted with a textbook and is a prime example of digital age learning and also promotes digital citizenship! I wonder if the school issued Bluetooth keyboards to be used in addition to the Ipad. And if so, how many? Many users rely on keyboards and I think it would be beneficial when completing complex assignments and win over the small percentage of users who are resistant to the ever popular technology.

Gregory Martin's insight:

iPads prove instrumental in the classroom! Not only is the popular device a top pic for recreation but learning as well! Student learning is significantly impacted; student learning and creativity is greatly enhanced in accordance with ISTE Standards for Students. iPad's have become a strong competitor to laptop sales.  "Many educators are looking at the iPad as an inexpensive way to deliver content [and] to save money on textbooks, and a lot of apps are available that try to make learning into a kind of game," (National Geographic 2014).

Gregory Martin's insight:

"A study from KIPP Academy in Houston, TX showed the percentage of students who rated either proficient or advanced (the 'passing' rate) was 49% percent higher in the 'flipped classrooms' using the iPads than in the traditional classrooms with no iPads".  This is another example of how beneficial digital learning can be! In some schools as much as 80 percent of work is completed on iPads.  I wonder if textbooks will become completely outsourced?

“This is just the beginning, and soon, twice as many students will be impacted by having iPads in the classroom.
Gregory Martin's insight:

Keeping students engaged in the classroom can be very challenging! Leadership and educators at Sunset Elementary has to let students communicate, collaborate and connect in the classroom! At Sunset Elementary student learning is greatly increased similar to the Ipads in the Classroom article where students can now take virtual fieldtrips and teachers can expedite assessments. This meets ISTE standard of "defining and developing digital age assessments" head on!
