A More Flexible iPad Classroom Through Apple TV - TeachThought

A More Flexible iPad Classroom Through Apple TV - TeachThought | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"

Technology has provided teachers with more tools than ever before to support a rich and personalized learning experience. 1:1 initiatives are commonplace and strategies are surfacing that clearly show how mobile devices can support instruction and learning. At the Franklin Academy High School, in Wake Forest, North Carolina, teachers and students have access to Apple TV devices to enhance the iPad initiative started over three years ago.

The basic operation of the Apple TV involves connecting the device to the existing organization network. With the AirPlay feature found on iPads and Apple computers, one connects in wirelessly to the Apple TV. This technology allows not only the streaming image of the iPad or airplay enabled computer, but also carries the audio signal as well. This makes for a quick way to share media that provides both the video and sound in one signal to the television or projection device."

"With the abundance of apps in the app store comes the question of what apps are really worth using with students in class and how to get your hands on them.A teacher who has a busy schedule with increasing workload in school is highly unlikely to have the time and energy to go online and sift through piles of apps to find the ones he/she wants to use. This is a time consuming task ."

Using Me Books in the Classroom

Using Me Books in the Classroom | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Being asked to try apps and ideas in school is always fun, but it’s rare that it works so well in the classroom… Me Books, by developer Made in Me has fitted in beautifully!

First of all, as I have discussed on this site, a big focus this year has been on reading, and particularly Guided Reading – see here for more information. The focus for us has been on the response to texts, children creating content and demonstrating their understanding. The iPad is a brilliant tool for that, allowing the children to choose a number of ways to respond to a tasks in creative and collaborative ways."

5 Reasons Pinterest’s Search Engine Is Better Than Google’s | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

Pinterest is a lifestyle searching tool for millions of people.

People go on there with excited eyes to look for amazing recipes to cook for dinner that weekend, find ways to dress to the tens for a special date, or find creative educational materials to teach children with.

Millions of users turn to Pinterest to enhance their lifestyle. And they are doing so by using the search function on Pinterest. Here’s a fun fact.

Did you know that Google has a search engine just for recipes? It’s been around for years, but almost nobody I know uses it.

Instead, most people I know automatically go to Pinterest if they want to find recipes to try out.

That’s not the only reason Pinterest is better than Google.

Here are 5 reasons why Pinterest’s search engine is better than Google.

Indeed, the iPad is a tool for creativity. Students can build digital projects, by using images, podcasts, videos and music to increase the appeal of their work.

I have also found that the iPad is fantastic when used as a rotational activity for practising skills during literacy and maths lessons; especially for kids who are struggling. Thus its a great tool to use when differentiation of curriculum is important.

Elaine Watkins's curator insight, September 3, 2013 8:43 AM

TeachingwithiPad.org: Dropbox for Dummies: Why You Shouldn't Need Your USB Key Again

TeachingwithiPad.org: Dropbox for Dummies: Why You Shouldn't Need Your USB Key Again | iPads, MakerEd and More in Education | Scoop.it

"Dropbox is my number one productivity tool that I use every single day, both for teaching and personal purposes. If you are still toting around USB thumb-drives and moving files from your home and work computers that way, keep on reading. If not, feel free to check out some of my more advanced Dropbox articles listed below.

For the completely uninitiated, Dropbox is a cloud storage solution that is free for the everyday user. Dropbox will give you (a rather paltry) 2GB of space when you first sign up. You can increase your free space to up to 19GB by doing certain tasks (referrals will net you an extra 500MB each). If you find that you need extra space, you can opt to purchase additional storage of up to 500GB total."
