Creative Uses of iPad in The Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Creative Uses of iPad in The Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPads in education | Scoop.it

"While I was working on the 62 ways to use iPad in the classroom, I came across this awesome presentation from Mike Amante. The presentation is labelled " Creative Uses of iPad in The Classroom" and is really a great work to say the least about it. Mike included a list of apps together with tips on how to use them in your classroom. He also recommended several other apps in the form of QR codes that you can scan to access. I am definitely adding this presentation to my iPad Resources section here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning."

How To: Use Wikipedia in the Classroom Responsibly

How To: Use Wikipedia in the Classroom Responsibly | iPads in education | Scoop.it

The problem is that Wikipedia in the classroom has gotten a bad reputation in the K-12 world, undeservedly so I think. I would suggest that Wikipedia can be used for a multitude of educational purposes at a wide variety of grade levels. Too many teachers are still afraid to use it in class, so I’m here to right that wrong and show our educators how they can responsibly integrate Wikipedia into their lessons.

Many schools don't allow students to use Wikipedia for projects, but could they be teaching their students how to use Wikipedia effectively instead?

Ugh. I hate it when I do this. I accidentally scooped this article instead of rescooping yours. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes opening too many tabs causes bad habits for me.
Ness Crouch's curator insight, May 25, 2013 6:12 PM

Giving these types of skills to students can help them with their understanding of writing and also help teachers with avoiding the copy and paste syndrome in tasks.

I think Pinterest is great for teachers to collect their ideas, but their are some things posted on Pinterest that are not appropriate for students to see.

This is a great example of how to use the Infographic format to educate and share knowledge with others.  It make sense that a teacher would do it.  Fantastic!

Audrey's curator insight, March 8, 2014 5:38 PM

Once you start using these two learning strategies teaching becomes a real pleasure as students will be teaching the topics.  In addition they will be able to give evaluative and analytical commentary.

45+ Teacher Recommended Educational Apps : Teacher Reboot Camp

45+ Teacher Recommended Educational Apps : Teacher Reboot Camp | iPads in education | Scoop.it

"Educators are beginning to see the potential of using mobile devices and apps for ongoing professional development as well as to improve literacy and cognitive development for learners. Apps are equipped with several features that motivate learners to create stories, presentations, and projects that are hands-on and use their creativity as well as their critical thinking skills. Once an app is downloaded, many features can be accessed without an Internet connection. Educators can also use various apps at conferences to connect with other educators or capture a presentation. Below are the various apps nominated by teachers for an Edublog Award so they must be worth checking out. Each has a link and a description. Make sure to check out the Edublog Awards for blogs, wikis, and web tools that teachers worldwide have recommended."

7 ways to teach digital literacy skills - iPads in Education Ning

7 ways to teach digital literacy skills - iPads in Education Ning | iPads in education | Scoop.it

"Fostering digital literacy skills is one of the most difficult tasks for educators. Evaluating and analyzing online resources for accuracy is something that many adults struggle with – we’ve all been bamboozled before, haven’t we? But digital literacy is more than just determining if something is true or false – it’s intelligently and responsibly navigating online, it’s putting countless pieces together to form a puzzle, it’s determining what’s important and evaluating bias, etc – the list goes on. So, as an educator, how do we reinforce these crucial skills in our classrooms?"

This is so important for students to learn about, especially fake websites. One that wasn't mentioned that I like to use is the one about the California velcro crop being damaged. http://www.umbachconsulting.com/miscellany/velcro.html
