Resources for Using iPads in Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 by Monica Burns - Edutopia

Resources for Using iPads in Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 by Monica Burns - Edutopia | iPads for GAPS | Scoop.it

Edutopia is one of my favourite web sites. It has recently run a series written by Monica Burns aka @ClassTechTips featuring Resources for Using iPads across multiple grade levels. Though I've featured them each individually here on iPads in Education I thought it might be useful to post all of the series in one collection.

What I like about this idea is the centrality of learning as opposed to the centrality of the device. We've discovered that sharing a device have far-reaching and positive possibilities for networking, interaction, teamwork and collaboration in the formal learning environment. OLPC is an example of a notion that goes the other way - individualism, not to mention, the complexities when trying to enable young learners to focus.

Meleny Weber's curator insight, December 9, 2013 5:16 PM

The ideas and applications listed in this blog are brilliant. There are some that can be done simply with a digital camera and a computer, which many teachers already own, but having an iPad do what those two things could is much more convenient. An app that really stuck out to me was Quizlet (also online). This allows teachers to make flashcards for upcoming tests and quizzes that their students can also look at to study. Another idea was the "Pick me" app, which is an app that a teacher can list all of his or her students' names, and you click a button that randomly picks a student. This is a more advanced way of using popsicle sticks that so many teachers still use today. It also has a way of recording who answers which questions wrong, so a teacher can notice any trends with a student not completely understanding the curriculum. Great ideas and apps that I will use in my classroom one day!

High School iPad/iPhone Teacher Resources

High School iPad/iPhone Teacher Resources | iPads for GAPS | Scoop.it

This site was created out of a desire to network in an inclusive way with all teachers who wanted to find iPad, iPhone, and iPod resources that can be useful at the secondary level.

Many on-line articles say things like "The 10 best reading apps", but many of the suggestions are aimed at primary and junior students. Hopefully the suggestions on this site will put intermediate and secondary teachers in touch with a few resources that apply more directly to them and their students.

A Wonderful Wheel featuring iPad Apps for Autistic Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Wonderful Wheel featuring iPad Apps for Autistic Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | iPads for GAPS | Scoop.it

"I must admit that apps for autistic learners are really scarce and hard to find. A few months ago I posted here a list some powerful apps for autism and today while I was looking for new apps that might have been created since the publication of that list I came across this wonderful wheel.

I know that the first thing that comes to mind when you see this wheel is the popular pedagogy Wheel created by Allan Carrington in which he provided suggestions for 62 apps based on Bloom's Taxonomy. The present wheel is developed by Mark Coppin in which he featured a wide variety of apps for autistic students."
