Implications Of Learning Theories On Instructional Design

Implications Of Learning Theories On Instructional Design | Digital Corner for Teachers | Scoop.it
The world of Instructional Design has evolved over the years. Influences from various learning theory movements like behaviorism, cognitivism, and social learning have constructed a foundation which acts as pillars of successful approaches. While each theory includes specific focal points with regards to how learning occurs—either by behavioral response or knowledge acquisition—they have contributed unique perspectives on learning as a whole and are responsible for how the field of Instructional Design has changed over time.

DesignCap is a new web tool you can use to create awesome posters and visuals. The tool is free, simple and easy to use. We have been tinkering with it for a bit and we think it is worth featuring here in our blog. As a teacher, you can use DesignCap to create educational posters to use in class and share with your students. You can do this in three easy steps: choose a poster template from the gallery. There are tons of professionally designed templates to choose from. Browse through the collection to find the one you like then click on it. Next, customize the layout and content of your poster. You can change things such as poster background, text fonts, add clip arts, upload your own photos and many more. You can enhance your posters by adding elements from DesignCap’s library such as clipart images, shapes, fonts…etc. When your poster is ready you can share it with others in social media websites, save it to you computer, or print a copy

The Future of Work: Technology and Robots and Digital Literacy… OH MY!

The Future of Work: Technology and Robots and Digital Literacy… OH MY! | Digital Corner for Teachers | Scoop.it

Q: When will robots be able to do my job?

A: Not yet… (at least not all of it).
"
I’ve been thinking about how technology is and will impact the world of work. Thanks to NPR’s Planet Money calculator: Will Your Job Be Done By A Machine? and perhaps an empirical search on automation in teaching literature I’ve been reviewing for George … I might have robots on my mind. The calculator says my professional role is not likely to be fully replaced, but I have my doubts."

The Problem Is Wasted Time, Not Screen Time

The Problem Is Wasted Time, Not Screen Time | Digital Corner for Teachers | Scoop.it

More than ever, we need to be intentional about how and when young people use technology in order to make it productive time.

Are today’s students spending too much time in front of computer screens? The more important question is: are students engaged in powerful learning experiences and, whenever possible, given voice and choice in what, how, and when they learn? Digital technology can powerfully facilitate this process, if thoughtful adults deploy it wisely. Otherwise, it can be mind-numbing, or worse.

The three broad learning theories most often utilized in the creation of instructional environments are Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism. These theories, however, were developed in a time when learning was not impacted through technology. In other words, they do not address learning that occurs outside of people, that is stored and manipulated by technology. Nowadays…

Teaching About the Rohingya Crisis in Myanmar

Teaching About the Rohingya Crisis in Myanmar | Digital Corner for Teachers | Scoop.it

"Why are hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar? Who are the Rohingya and why are they being persecuted? What responsibility does the world have to end what the United Nations is calling 'ethnic cleansing' and many are labeling 'genocide'? In this lesson, students will first learn about the crisis unfolding in Myanmar using Times reporting, videos, podcasts and photography. Then, we suggest a variety of activities for going deeper, such as tackling universal questions about national identity and minority rights, considering the responsibility of the world community, and going inside the squalid refugee camps sprawling across the border in Bangladesh."

This issue is not as firmly fixed in our minds as it should be.  So much of our media's attention is on less substantial issues, that when they compile resources for teachers on a subject like this, it deserves mentioning.  Even if you have already read your 10 free monthly articles from the NY Times, you can still watch the video embedded in the lesson. Attached is a worksheet that I will be using in my classes (feel free to adapt and use).

Camila Ávila's curator insight, October 31, 2017 9:15 PM
Knowing how complicated the news are around the world nowdays, there are things that need to be explained to children which may affect them direct or indirectly. Likewise, some parents do not like to talk about those things with them, it may be because of the ignorance of some, or because they think that it is not necesary for the children to know those things.
I find this resource very useful because many times teachers have to fill in the gaps that the parents leave in children. Most of the times, this gaps need to be filled with tact and in a way that children can process it easily andin the right way..
Thank you TKN for creating such useful tool.
