Tutorial: Intro to Core Animation | MacResearch | iOS tutorials A | Scoop.it

Core Animation, you've been hearing about how great it is, how it makes animation easier and how cool it is. Well you're about to find out first hand that all of the things you've heard are TRUE. We'll cover a little background first and then jump into a simple Cocoa example on how to build Core Animation functionality into your application using a couple of completely contrived examples (For those that want something a bit more advanced, I've posted some work-in-progress code, that shows how to use layering to create a cheap Cover Flow knock off. Hey it's a work in progress. See the end of the tutorial for links).

Working with Assertions to Debug your Apps

Assertions provide a mechanism to catch errors by checking a condition statement(s) and throwing an exception if the condition check fails. Assertions are implemented as macros that you can use to evaluate conditions at various points in your application. Often times assertions are used as a sanity check to verify variables contain the values, or range of values expected.

How To Create a Rotating Wheel Control with UIKit | Ray Wenderlich | iOS tutorials A | Scoop.it
This component is intuitive to use because it resembles many similar controls we use in real life to make choices. For example:

A ship’s wheel allows the captain to choose the direction of travel. To set the volume of your stereo, you use a rotary knob. You might also remember that we used to call people using rotary dial telephones.

Such shared knowledge allows us to recognize the “possible uses” of a rotary wheel, even when it’s a virtual wheel.
