Money Insider: Invoice discounting allows firms to grow | Invoice Finance | Scoop.it
Many of the start-up companies that managed to weather the recession are now expanding as part of the next generation of British businesses.
Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

Although making sure whatever option is chosen is right for the business is more important and that all options have been looked at. Just looking at what appears to be easy money is often fraught with dangers for any business and unless properly advised a trap many fall into.

Invoice discounting shouldn't be frowned upon - Real Business

Business news and management advice for entrepreneurs, growing businesses and SMEs.
Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

From the 'horse's mouth' so to speak !! Many business owners regard invoice finance as last resort funding but it is used as a real motor for growth by larger SMEs and Mid-Corporates as well as a means to and end often used to help fund buyouts, and takeovers. Do not discount it as an option without talking to an expert first.

Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

A very simple and funny overview of how invoice finance works but with this now a mainstream option for UK businesses it needs to be de-mystified. WIth over 40 invoice finance funders out there as well as simplicity UK businesses need to know which ones will work for them, which is a good fit and which will happily grow with them. Increasingly there are more specialist brokers in the market, like us at Touchstone, able to advise perhaps with a little more focus than the generalist brokers who perhaps only know a few of the 'big names'. With the right support this is a real option to fund growth, day to day creditors and trade finance.

What do you do when you find yourself in need of capital, but can't get (or don't want) a traditional bank loan?
Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

The only variation to this would be that in picking a factoring company/option to use, all SMEs and/or their professional advisers should talk to a specialist invoice finance broker who knows what is happening across the whole market and can save time and money ion accessing this.

Benefits and pitfalls of invoice discounting

Benefits and pitfalls of invoice discounting | Invoice Finance | Scoop.it
Invoice finance is an increasingly popular form of funding. To some extent it's been associated with distressed businesses, but it can also be a good way of funding growth. What is invoice finance?
Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

Cannot disagree with any of this, but this emphasises the need to have a specialist broker working with you to make sure you are aware of both the benefits and pitfalls of any option, but also who the good, the bad and the ugly are amongst providers  as sometimes what is said on the tin, does not match what is actually delivered !!

Dylan Jones-Evans: Crunches the numbers on bank funding to firms in Wales ...
Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

Interesting that the implication here is that invoice finance is in some way worse than an overdraft. Some might suggest this is actually more flexible, easier to access, less risky from a personal viewpoint and a potential real driver for SMEs looking to fund growth.

Success rate for UK SME loan applications on the rise - FTSE Global Markets

Success rate for UK SME loan applications on the rise

Firms have also relied less on asset-based leasing, invoice discounting and credit cards.
Ed Hewitt-Symonds's insight:

Although I would argue that amongst smaller businesses, with turnover £500k to £2m and newer fast growth businesses invoice finance remains a mainstream option. Peer to peer funders need more of a track record, venture funding sets its thresholds too high, and bank overdraft and loan funding is just too onerous and slow. IF is quicker and in many cases the only real option to fund growth in particular, when this is based on projected turnover rather than existing or past income.
