Wedding planning is every unpredictable and you have to go with the flow. Strict guide lines do not work because of budget and style so you have to be willing to come up with some unpredictable things. The job does not end when the guests leave. Every gift and everything else is properly taken care of and everything is back to the place rented for. You are not there to just to the guests show up but for the dinner and everything afterwards so you must be prepared and able to fix any problems without stress if something were to come up

communication skills just like in residential design is the biggest key to being successful. Wedding planners once they find out who will be getting married has to convince them to go with them rather than a different planner. Communicating your skills in the best, most convincing way will be whether you are successful or not. You have to have the communication skills to get your name out there. It would be helpful to put your name out as much as possible because even though recommendations come by more often then not it is off of your own communication skills.

wedding consultants need to have a flexible work schedule because most jobs can take up to a couple weeks of working everyday. Their hours and days can vary because some of the couples can only meet after work or on weekends. The hours vary depending on what is being checked on to make sure it is all on track. The wedding planner needs to be very organized and work very well under pressure to keep the stress of the couple. The busiest time for wedding planners is in the spring and summer so they have to be willing to work long hours under circumstances in the summer.

The biggest aspect to being a wedding planner or event design is organization. The wedding planners job could be running the entire wedding to meet the couple to how they want. They keep the entire event on track and in order whether they do the whole wedding or are in charge of one specific part. Just like in interior design communication is a huge part in being successful. Being able to work around what people want and keep them happy but still in budget will be the most successful way to work as an event designer.

Another aspect that would be helpful to know is the customs. Customs can be pulled together in a wedding through colors and flowers. Making different customs blend depending on the couple is a key part to making the wedding look and run smooth. A part of this is figuring out the time schedules to make sure nothing is chaotic and there is enough time planned for each specific part.

colors is most likely the biggest part in making the wedding or event flow. Just like it is in the set design, the colors of the wedding create a theme. A beach themed wedding would have a different theme than an indian wedding would. A wedding designer has to be able to work with the location to pull the right colors and make the wedding or event seem in place. Also flowers can make or break the wedding. If the couple is going for more elegant then the simple white pink and cream flowers would be best but a bright and outdoor wedding might be able to mix more with the colors available within the flowers and pull some colors through the centerpieces or other aspects.

The genre is also something to take into account as a designer. A horror movie is completely different from a chick flick or romance movie so the sets have to give the viewer a visual to lead to the kind of movie it is. A torn up abandoned building would not be a good set for a romance and a picnic would not be horror. The sets and lighting play a huge role in determining what the movie is basically going to be about. This subject plays into the effects of color, texture, and atmosphere as well.
Carlie Edwards's comment, February 20, 2014 12:03 PM
Special effects are also a big part in completely getting the attention of the viewers. Some things the set designer could have to do depending on the movie is make certain things like trap doors in the set. They would have to make them unnoticeable within the set and build the furniture of the movie around them. This would be the same for moving walls so the aspect of utilizing space convenient for the process to run out successfully.

In some cases the set designer can work with the costume designer to fit the costumes with the set. They would need to design what would fit in the theme of the movie and the mood. The mood would be what is going on throughout the play like a party or a ranch style. The costume has to fit with the visions on set because if not the character will look out of place and could ruin the theme of the movie and look off. The set designer has to help tie in the theme with the costumes

This job although it can be stressful at times is full of imagination and creativity. You do not have to sit at a desk but are rather hands on with the area to make it fit the script to catch the viewers attention. You dont get to just jump into everything but rather start at smaller stages like assistants or prop makers. Theatre is much different then film because in theatre you work alone or one other person. In film you work with a team because it can be much more complicated with a variety of many more concepts added in. For either of them they include many hours of work. The only thing is that the work is creative and not a job to hate being at so the hours do not seem as long. There is no training for this job in college like a book or crunching numbers but rather on the job learning as you progress. The math that would need to be done would be budget or there could be a serious problem.

a wedding planner is in charge of creating a step by step schedule to have all the needed information met on a scheduled time. The wedding planner offers suggestions to get similar style the couple wants but in their budget so the wedding planner has to be able to crunch numbers to see what can be afforded and what can not. They also have to set a certain amount of money toward each different part so that one section like the location does not take up to much of the budget so then the flowers they want or whatever else they wont afford.
Carlie Edwards's comment, April 3, 2014 8:25 PM
a key aspect to having a successful wedding within the budget is knowing price. Styles of weddings and dresses change so they have to have contacts with all these bridal stores for the couple to have options to find what they want. They have to be able to offer a different sense that the couple might not have thought about to save them money but also get the same theme they were going for. Knowing what areas are cheap and can hold certain numbers of people are also helpful to know. So getting the knowledge is what will help the couple the most and have a better outcome for the wedding planner.

The only education that is usually involved is a high school degree. There is no demanded degrees to be successful. However it would be more beneficial to have a slight business backgorund considering you will have to negotiate prices and be in meetings figuring everything out just like a business would. Having skills in social media is helpful to finding a variety of options and also a range of prices. Also stated a hospitality degree and tourism management degree to give them a wider range of opportunities.

Jobs are increasing up to 33% within the next few years and it is not a usual behind the desk job. It is a very hands on job where you will be outside planning and shopping and checking on the decorations. Some times there are a few times where a meeting is held but that is a small time behind a desk compared to how much time is required. Creativity is the biggest part but also the organization and sense of style. Just like the movie sets wedding styles change so they have to have the ability to change with the times. Colors cant clash, organization has to be bon point and crunching numbers is a major deal due to the budgets that the wedding planner is given to meet requirements of the couple by a certain date.

Set designers tend to stick with one kind of set rather then mix between different styles. The best option is to pick one that you are best at and the one you enjoy the most with the most creativity because that will be the one you stick with most. The styles differ from a modern family movie to Aztec, Egyptian, space time, a jungle, or a deserted Island. There are many more but it can become difficult to do movies back to back that completely differ all the time.

Conveying the time period is not the only part in making a scene look successful. Other aspects include the mood, lighting, texture and color. Color plays a big part in making a scene look realistic. The colors can throw everything off by not following color schemes. A dark movie should not have bright colors or it wont look realistic. Lighting can make a scene look fake by too much lighting of the wrong kind. You must find the right textures to fit the theme of the script. A dark movie would not work with silk over the furniture and windows but rather you have to find objects to make the scene seem like your actually there. The mood can be thrown off by one of these aspects being off because it could make it seem like something it is not trying to portray.
Carlie Edwards's comment, February 20, 2014 11:47 AM
In any concept in todays world money is a huge part in creating or buying anything. Everyone has a budget and the set designer has a specific budget for that part of the work. They have to decide whether they want to spend the money on building sets for the movie or scenes or to put research into trying to find a place to shoot the movie that fits the theme and time period they are looking for and also that it is not too expensive because they will still most likely need to add small details into that location to make it what the director pleases.
Carlie Edwards's comment, February 20, 2014 12:06 PM
Another aspect of money is involved with the furniture. They set designer has to be able to go out and find the furniture that would fit the style of the movie cheap enough. If they could not find the type of furniture they are looking for they have to work building the objects into their budget as well. This would also add to the time aspect so they have to find the most effective way to finish this set.

A set designer first starts off with the most important part, reading the script. Doing this with help give them insight on what theme the director is looking for, time period and style. The time period changes between different movie so the designer has to have knowledge of what significance that time period is known for so that the viewers can easily relate to the aspects they already know. The script also helps with the tone of the movies so you have to be able to recognize either the tense scene to portray it through the objects in the back ground or a simple scene cant have anything harsh. Research will be needed to get the full effect.
Carlie Edwards's comment, February 20, 2014 11:42 AM
A designer also needs to have the ability to work under time limits but still have imagination and creativity. Sketches are a big part of designing so that everyone knows what needs to be done and also so that if someone thinks one thing could work better then what they have they can make changes accordingly. People can see what is needed to make anything needed and get measurements so that every thing can fit. These sketches give the director an idea of what to expect and to give the director to offer opinions he/she has to make it better fit the script.
