SMART Technology SMART Board video contest winner - YouTube

SMART Technology SMART Board video contest winner created by Mary Lehman from Stony Brook Elementary School in York, Pennsylvania, USA Great job Mary!
Corinne Altham's insight:

Here we see a teacher who is using the Smartboard for what it was meant to be: multi-purpose. The teacher gives direct instruction in the form of literacy mini-lessons, the students complete activities, and the teacher handles classroom management with interactive notebook pages. But what's really innovative in this video is at the 1:40 mark when she shows the kids using screen capture to retell a story. Kids are simultaneously showing comprehension while creating a multimedia project to share with the class.

SmartBoard, Make Way for Educreations

SmartBoard, Make Way for Educreations | Interactive White Boards: Necessity or Gravy? | Scoop.it

Julia Hum/Educreations: One of the biggest, fastest shifts in ed tech the last couple years has been the evolution from the use of large interactive whiteboards to the use of mobile, agile multi-purpose apps.

Currently, there are at least six products, all competing to become teachers’ favorite. Replay Note, ScreenChomp, ShowMe, DoodleCast Pro, Knowmia, Explain Everything and Educreations all offer teachers the ability to record the visual and audio components of a “whiteboard” lesson on their iPads, and share it online.

Corinne Altham's insight:

With the push to iPads, apps like Educreations are bringing out the teacher in all our students. Do these new apps make a case for the Smartboard? Or do apps like Nearpod make it obsolete?

The Must-Have EdTech Buying Guide For Schools - Edudemic

The Must-Have EdTech Buying Guide For Schools - Edudemic | Interactive White Boards: Necessity or Gravy? | Scoop.it
When it comes to buying classroom technology, the person choosing the price range and type of technology varies from scenario to scenario. Sometimes teachers have no say in what will be implemented in their classroom, other times teachers don’t get any technology unless they pick it out and implement it themselves. Other times still, teachers …

I post this website because it's a great example of a teacher integrating the SmartBoard in a really effective way. She brings the kids to the board, which I argue in my video is one of the reasons a teacher should have an interactive white board.

This site is actually a wiki that was created by SMART Board trainer Nancy Norem.  Many of the links and tools included in this wiki are similar to that of other sites.  What sets this site apart is the inclusion of printable cards entitled "64 SMART Notebook Quick Tips".  This is a valuable resource to have next to a computer for a novice, or even intermediate, user.

Why Smartboards are a Dumb Initiative

Why Smartboards are a Dumb Initiative | Interactive White Boards: Necessity or Gravy? | Scoop.it

Having said those two things, if I was teaching I would be thankful for a Smartboard only because I’m a gadget geek. Personally, though, I’d rather everyone in our education system start working towards re-imagining what’s possible.

Amy O'Connor's curator insight, July 7, 2015 11:22 PM

This is the blog of an educator who is frustrated with boring and pointless school initiatives. She makes the case that SMARTboards are just a glorified computer, only larger and with touchscreen technology rather than a mouse. She accuses administrators of always wanting something big to show for the money they spend on technology, and that they are not thinking clearly.
