No Brasil, um em cada cinco alunos que se matriculam em cursos a distância não chega ao fim do programa.

Segundo o censo 2012 da Abed (Associação Brasileira de Educação a Distância), os programas autorizados pelo MEC tem evasão média de 20,5% e os livres de 23,6%. O Ministério da Educação não mede a evasão nos cursos superiores presenciais, mas a USP (Universidade de São Paulo), por exemplo, tem uma evasão média de 20%.
