The Day My Dad Kicked Me Out For Being Gay Changed My Life Forever

The Day My Dad Kicked Me Out For Being Gay Changed My Life Forever | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
We were on the back porch, smoke rolling up from the nearby barbeque grill, the smell of chicken roasting in the air. My father was more silent than usual. He took a hard swig from his beer bottle. I asked, "You okay?" Out of nowhere, my father says, "If you choose to be gay, then you're no longer part of this family. You want to live that lifestyle? Then do it somewhere else." His gaze drifted toward the woods. He didn't want to look at me
Al Cannistra's insight:

We seemingly and sadly have accepted polarity in everyday life and that people in our country hate one another. Politics, religion and many other personal views have become the genesis of who we hate or who we like. Then – a wakeup call - this article comes along and shares an experience from decades ago – before the time of hate. Woefully, what you will read in the article still happens today – hate, within a family. Some friends may be dealing with this soon and that is why I decided to curate – and comment.

Rejecting a child over sexuality? Your child? Have we not evolved enough to recognize it is not a choice – it is simply who they are. Thankfully there is a heroine in the story – a grandmother who cared. Not all stories go that way and some kids live – or die – on the streets.

Are you one who thinks religion justifies rejection and abandoning your child? Why? If you disagree and advocate acceptance, your view is welcome too.
