This video is a brief case study on how an Integrated Marketing Communications approach is used to introduce a new laundry softener. One can discuss this case to highlight different stages in the hierarchy of effects (e.g., awareness, knowledge, trial) and the different marketing communications tools (e.g., media campaign, digital and social marketing, in-store signage etc.) that have been used in a unified approach.

Marshall Rosenberg: The Gift of Empathy - Presence

Marshall Rosenberg: The Gift of Empathy - Presence | Integrated Marketing Communication | Scoop.it

What matters most for real communication? Our choice of words, our clarity of expression … or is it something deeper? Marshall Rosenberg has dedicated his life to helping people transcend barriers and resolve conflicts through his method of Nonviolent Communication.

With more than 20 years of experience in some of the most difficult arenas, he has learned the art of both speaking and listening—and becoming aware of the underlying needs being expressed in any exchange. Here he reveals one of the essential elements of true, heart-to-heart communication—and the most powerful gift that one person can give to another.

Good to know that Rosenberg is inspired by Carl Rogers, when he made the same observation about the power of PRESENCE whithin the relationships. Rogers first published its importance in the eighties in the book A Way of being (1980).

Taking the Pulse of Social Media

Taking the Pulse of Social Media | Integrated Marketing Communication | Scoop.it

Doctors are becoming more than a white coat and a stethoscope. They are becoming bloggers and photographers; rappers and painters; designers and musicians. Quite simply, doctors are becomingpeople. Real, true people.

To what do we owe this drastic change of public image?

For the most part, we can attribute it to social media.

We all know that physicians are beginning to utilize social media platforms—such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn—as avenues for effective communication with patients. They are realizing that, by breaking down communicative barriers, they are able to engage patients in a new way.

The way I see it, there are five reasons why physicians should embrace social media:

It lets you meet the patients where they are.It increases physician transparency in the medical community. It makes for engaging interactions with colleagues, and therefore helps spread important health information. It’s a way to create and curate medical narratives. It’s not mandated (for the most part).

But, as social media plays a bigger and bigger role in the lives of patients, physicians very well may be obligated to share themselves with patients via social media. It allows patients to get to know their doctors outside the four walls of the hospital and, therefore, keeps them better informed. As we know, informed medical decision-making is a prerequisite for all effective medicine.

Social media may be used as an avenue for storytelling—something that, conveniently, is the foundation of our Artificial Hearts group problem. Cardiologists have made use of social media in a rather unique way: as a tool for education of clinicians, physicians, nurses, and medical students. Rather than embracing patient-driven social media, the field of cardiology is embracing physician-driven social media.

Blogs and social networks dedicated exclusively to cardiology are allowing physicians to distribute, share, and comment on medical content such as images, scientific abstracts, and summaries of clinical trials. One such network is CardioSource.org, founded by the American College of Cardiology

Establish communication towards patients has brought doctor that much closer to them, in return this enables doctors to engage a more intimate relationship with their patient.

This got me thinking more about my undergraduate degree, which was in PR. But PR was a focus in the school of communication at Missouri State University. So, if I wasn't taking PR classes, I was taking classes like theory, persuasion, and rhetoric. Does Public relations fit best with those communication classes or should it have been complimented with advertising or marketing classes?

Integrated Communications has so many arms these days and I think a lot about how it can best be taught at universities.

From this article I know more about the importance of using integrated marketing communications nowadays. It's not a new concept, but not many companies actually use it especially those small-size companies. This article offered five tips to get started which is really helpful.

IMC is the process of getting your brand out to the customers using various effective methods. The use of technology/social media these days are very useful not only to deliver one company's product and services to their potential customers but also to peek in to what their competitors are upto and how their brand are being perceived by customers. This will allow them to keep up with changes. IMC is very helpful in the business world.
