IPad Teaching and Learning

IPad Teaching and Learning | Instructional Technology | Scoop.it

`Beginning in our next school year, we are very excited to implement iPads (iPad2 devices) as a tool for collaborative learning in our English and Media faculty. We believe that the technology can enhance our pedagogy, whilst engaging our students in the basics of reading, writing and speaking & listening. We believe that the devices can harness excitement and confidence in our students, unleashing greater creativity and raising literacy standards. By using Apple TV, we will use the devices as a tool for formative assessment, immediately streaming student responses, writing, annotation or presentations and films etc. We are not going for the 1-to-1 model, instead the device will be used as a collaborative tool in groups. A class set will effectively be 7 to 8 iPads.``

It is interesting and pleasing to note that more people are looking to use digital technologies to address appropriate predefined learning goals that may differ from those that best suit traditional learning goals and pen and paper technologies.

A good move. Not using iPads or rather some brand of tablet in the 21st century is like not using biros in the 20th.

15 Secrets of the Most Successful Self-Learners

15 Secrets of the Most Successful Self-Learners | Instructional Technology | Scoop.it

For many curious folks, their impassioned yearning to soak up as much of the world’s wonders as possible completely transcends the boundaries of a traditional classroom. Armed with an insatiable lust for knowledge, they set out to acquire it on their own terms, although a few pointers obviously can’t hurt before departure and landing!

Not every possible technique will necessarily stick with all self-motivated learners, of course, but the only way to find out is to test them. Try some of the following and experiment with what works in a more independent educational setting.

Moving Outside the LMS: Matching Web 2.0 Tools to Instructional Purpose | EDUCAUSE.edu

Moving Outside the LMS: Matching Web 2.0 Tools to Instructional Purpose | EDUCAUSE.edu | Instructional Technology | Scoop.it

ABSTRACT:

What considerations support the decision to either augment or replace an institution’s existing learning management system (LMS) with a cloud-based, Web 2.0 technology tool to support students’ learning? The use of instructional technologies should be evaluated against a backdrop of pedagogical objectives, and students’ selection of tools to support their learning can result in a more collaborative, constructive, and authentic learning experience. Instructors must balance the benefit of introducing new technology tools into the curriculum with the additional load—for instructors (supporting the tool) and students (learning the tool). This paper describes the experiences of an online graduate program in instructional technology at Georgia Southern University (GSU) and the program faculty who have chosen to move beyond the LMS.

liked this comment "successfully running a business does not qualify someone to teach any more than having a new PhD with lots of research experience prepares one to face students in a classroom."

3 Characteristics Every LMS Should Have

3 Characteristics Every LMS Should Have | Instructional Technology | Scoop.it

"Required learning management system characteristics can vary depending on the organization, but there are still some fundamental items that every LMS should contain in order to provide true value an organization. First, I should note that there is a difference between characteristics and features. Features refer to the functionality that is contained within the LMS itself... On the other hand, characteristics refer to not just the features, but the overall offering of the LMS."
