ome very creative thinkers from MIT realized that students were so occupied with furious note taking that they weren’t fully paying attention to their lessons. They asked a simple what if question (“What if there was a way to obtain the whiteboard notes, formulas, and drawings without having to write everything down?”) and a company was born. That was 1997 and the company is Mimio. Their passion for discovery led them to invent what became the MimioCapture™ tracking system. Students could finally concentrate on each lesson, and obtain the notes afterward. Mimio has since grown and produced a number of subsequent breakthrough innovations to help educators focus more on teaching and students to concentrate more on learning, including the MimioClassroom.

Howard Rheingold | Exploring mind amplifiers since 1964

Howard Rheingold | Exploring mind amplifiers since 1964 | Innovative Education thru IT | Scoop.it

The future of digital culture—yours, mine, and ours—depends on how well we learn to use the media that have infiltrated, amplified, distracted, enriched, and complicated our lives. How you employ a search engine, stream video from your phonecam, or update your Facebook status matters to you and everyone, because the ways people use new media in the first years of an emerging communication regime can influence the way those media end up being used and misused for decades to come. Instead of confining my exploration to whether or not Google is making us stupid, Facebook is commoditizing our privacy, or Twitter is chopping our attention into microslices (all good questions), I've been asking myself and others how to use social media intelligently, humanely, and above all mindfully. This book is about what I've learned.

5 New Technologies That Have Changed The Digital Classroom ... | Innovative Education thru IT | Scoop.it

In the past, the suggestion of getting a college degree without ever cracking a book meant paying a degree mill. It meant the degree was in name only, reflecting neither learning nor effort.

Then distance learning meant correspondence courses, perhaps combined with some coordinated telecasts. Technology has already changed all that, and the future will change it even further. Edudemic.

How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators

How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators | Innovative Education thru IT | Scoop.it

Before the advent of Twitter, most educators I know had limited opportunities to collaborate with colleagues outside their building. Some subscribed to listservs or participated in online forums, but these outlets lacked critical mass; teachers also networked at in-person conferences and training sessions, but these isolated events didn't provide ongoing support.

YouTube Testing Feature To Quiz You While You’re Watching A Video | TechCrunch

YouTube Testing Feature To Quiz You While You’re Watching A Video | TechCrunch | Innovative Education thru IT | Scoop.it

YouTube videos may soon be getting a little more interactive. There’s now a page on the YouTube website describing a feature called “Video Questions Editor Beta,” which was spotted by the Dutch tech site WebSonic.nl.

The page itself is pretty bare-bones, but it describes the feature as a way for “multiple questions to be displayed on top of your video during playback that a viewer can answer.” So video producers can add an interactive element to their content — imagine adding little quizzes to an educational video or introducing product questions to a video ad.
