Hotel Innovation and Entrepreneurship Study Adelaide

Hotel Innovation and Entrepreneurship Study Adelaide | Innovation, Architecture & Engineering | Scoop.it

The Australian Hotels Association - nationally and in each of the states - and the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism supported the University of South Australia in carrying out a major research project to identify ways in which pub owner and managers can build the ability of their hotel to innovate and to compete more effectively.

This study focused on the traditional  "general hotel", or "Aussie pub" in the regions as well as in the capital cities, that are independent or members of small hotel groups. In other words, this study did not include the very large hotel groups, or the four and five-star hotel chains.

This study looked at the capabilities that a hotel needs to have so that it can innovate more successfully across all areas of its business, as well as take advantage of new business opportunities in an entrepreneurial manner. The results of this study will greatly benefit the hotel industry, and the information collected in this study has been used to develop workshops for pub managers to help them develop their business (and to make more money).

The 7 steps of hotel innovation

The 7 steps of hotel innovation | Innovation, Architecture & Engineering | Scoop.it
From researches of business leaders across the industry, the need for “innovation” seems to be in vogue these days. Whether it is a sign of the recovering economy and the results of cutbacks in research and development during the downturn, or if innovation is just the newest buzzword or fad following the likes of “synergy,” “bandwidth,” “transformational,” and “out of the box.”
The key to successful innovation is to be “outcome focused.” Improve customer outcomes at key touch points by focusing on understanding exactly what your customers want to accomplish (the benefits) at a given touch point.

The following seven-step methodology of innovation is discussed in the article:
1. Create a customer experience map: Identify customer touch points with your product/service.
2. Identify customer outcomes: Using your customer experience map, outline what the customer wants to accomplish at each touch point by customer segment.
3. Determine the current state: Conduct customer research to validate your findings and uncover unmet customer needs.
4. Prioritize: Find the areas on which to focus.
5. Test: Try your new innovations in a controlled setting.
6. Implement: Put your new innovations into practice more widely.
7. Measure and adjust: Always be flexible to make adjustments.

Inspiring Hotels Architecture - 24 Buildings

Inspiring Hotels Architecture - 24 Buildings | Innovation, Architecture & Engineering | Scoop.it

Hotel architecture tends to look like office building architecture in some cases, and not that interesting office architecture, but the dull type. Fortunately, there are also cases of unique and well thought architectural plans for hotels, showcased in this article through a few examples. A small number of these are just projects or in construction, but the rest are just architectural marvels.

Australia has been passing in the past year through a period of economic growth which puts in motion other wheels of the economy, like for example architecture and construction.

Before this small period of economic growth, Australia wasn’t doing bad at all, it was (and still is) one of the most developed countries in the world and the infrastructure, office buildings and commercial areas were top notch so the main area where constructions could be made (of course there are exceptions) is in housing.

That’s why you will see in this article a large number of houses, of course with a clean, modern architecture, which is based on large spaces, big windows, a lot of natural light inside a house and the occasional garden in front of it or in the backyard.

InterContinental Hotels Group PLC : Corporate Responsibility - Innovation - Innovation Hotel

InterContinental Hotels Group PLC : Corporate Responsibility - Innovation - Innovation Hotel | Innovation, Architecture & Engineering | Scoop.it

Consumer research confirms that most of our customers want to make choices that are better for the environment and for communities. This makes us even more determined to find innovative ways to act responsibly throughout our brands and services. The Innovation Hotel is an online example of what future hotels might look like if they used green technologies. We created PUSH hotel, in a way that our guests can tell us what they like and share their ideas with us. It also provides us with a place to set out our latest thinking. We use the site to consider these ideas as we evolve the way we design, build and operate more responsible hotels. It also feeds into the ongoing development of our Green Engage programme. Giving online guests and members of the public a chance to contribute ideas to the site has brought about a step-change in our relationship with these important stakeholders.

The Innovation Hotel is more interactive than before; guests and the public can explore the hotel, room by room, and leave comments on each idea. The comments can then be shared through Facebook or Twitter. Ideas contributed by guests, the public and colleagues could then inform the way we design, build and operate more responsible hotels through Green Engage. The site also includes real-life case studies that show how our hotels are already using sustainable ideas as well as a refreshed design.
