Developing Your Digital Study Skills

Developing Your Digital Study Skills | Information Skills | Scoop.it

Making the move from our safe and trusted traditional literacy habits to newer digital skills can be quite a challenge, but as teachers I think we are really unlikely to be able to use technology and help our students use technology really effectively unless we are prepared to face this challenge. Technology needs to be more than part of the way we teach but it also has to be part of the way we ourselves continue to learn and part of our everyday professional practice.

Cool!  I'm an English teacher, and anything that helps to promote literacy and exposure to new and interesting texts gets an A in my book.

Tina Jameson's curator insight, February 5, 2015 5:57 PM

Choose a theme - choose a discussion question - choose a text.

Open-source resources offering a great range for primary through to year 12 students.

Patricia Daniels's curator insight, February 11, 2015 9:07 AM

These texts can be downloaded and are aimed at varying literacy levels. The topics are broad and can be used to promote critical thinking. In an ELT context they could be used to form the basis of discussions. The text worksheets also contain questions to encourage reflection and debate.

Very well stated argument for study skills classes. To me, this links beautifully with an earlier TeachThought article about the 26 questions every student should be able to answer: how do we know if the students have these skills if we don't teach it? Yes, some do but what about those that don't - share with teachers.
