A very quick (and noisy) introduction to Google Forms. It takes you through the whole creation focus. No voice-over, just messages in text, telling you what to do.  Something else to add to the arsenal when introducing Google Forms to others.

Amazon and Hachette settle bitter e-book dispute - CNET

Amazon and Hachette settle bitter e-book dispute - CNET | eBooks - The Future is Here | Scoop.it
“ Amazon and publisher Hachette agreed to end their battle, bringing a close to a sour dispute lasting months over whether the Web giant can offer steep discounts on e-books. Neither Amazon nor Hachette, a subsidiary of French corporation Lagardère Publishing, disclosed the terms of their deal reached Thursday. But the companies confirmed in a joint statement that Hachette now has the right to set the price of its e-books. The deal takes effect next year, when the two companies are set to resume normal relations. Amazon, the top online retailer in the US, will now feature the publisher's books in its promotions -- a marked departure from its behavior over the past few months.”

E-readers may make reading easier for dyslexics - TruthDive

Washington, Sept. 19 (ANI): Researchers have revealed that when e-readers are set up to display only a few words per line, some dyslexics are able to read more easily, quickly and with greater comprehension. An element in many cases of dyslexia is called a visual attention deficit. It is marked by an inability to concentrate on letters within words or words within lines of text. Another element is known as visual crowding-the failure to recognize letters when they are cluttered within the word. Lead author Matthew H. Schneps, director of the Laboratory for Visual Learning at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, said that at least a third of those with dyslexia they tested have these issues with visual attention and are helped by reading on the e-reader. He said that for those who don’t have these issues, the study showed that the traditional ways of displaying text are better. The team tested the reading comprehension and speed of 103 students with dyslexia who attend Landmark High School in Boston. Reading on paper was compared with reading on small hand-held e-reader devices, configured to lines of text that were two-to-three words long. The use of an e-reader significantly improved speed and comprehension in many of the students. Those students with a pronounced visual attention deficit benefited most from reading text on a handheld device versus on paper, while the reverse was true for those who did not exhibit these issues.

Why Nurturing Student Creativity is Essential (and 7 Ways to Do It) by Lee Watanabe Crockett

Why Nurturing Student Creativity is Essential (and 7 Ways to Do It) by Lee Watanabe Crockett | eBooks - The Future is Here | Scoop.it

"In our travels, we’ve asked educators all over the world about the most important skills kids need to thrive in life beyond school. It’s pleasing to see that nurturing student creativity is very high on that list. In fact, it’s number 2, directly below problem-solving. But why is it so important, and how do we ensure we are letting students exercise these abilities in ways that will serve them—and the world—in the future? "

Bored Out of Their Minds - GES.Harvard

Bored Out of Their Minds - GES.Harvard | eBooks - The Future is Here | Scoop.it
Educators and scientists have yet to agree on a definition of boredom, let alone unearth its exact causes and cures in the classroom. The most exhaustive book on the subject to date, Boredom in the Classroom: Addressing Student Motivation, Self-Regulation, and Engagement in Learning, is 72 pages long. As Dean James Ryan recently wrote in Education Week, “Boredom ought to be considered much more seriously when thinking about ways to improve student outcomes. ... I would think it is in all of our interests at least to confront this stubborn fact of school rather than simply to accept boredom as inextricably linked to learning.”

“But the biggest shift we need,” Rose believes, is much more elemental. “We need to get away from thinking that the opposite of ‘bored’ is ‘entertained.’ It’s ‘engaged.’” It’s not about pumping cartoons and virtual reality games into the classroom, it’s about finding ways to make curriculum more resonant, personalized, and meaningful for every student. “Engagement is very meaningful at a neurological level, at a learning level, and a behavioral level. When kids are engaged, life is so much easier.”
