Coriander is an annual herb that belongs to the carrot family (Umbelliferae). The plant is a thin stemmed, small, bushy herb, 25 to 50 cm in height, Leaves are alternate, compound. The whole plant has a pleasant aroma. Fruit is globular, 3 to 4 mm diameter, when pressed break into two locules each having one seed. Fruit has delicate fragrance the seeds are pale white to light brown in color.
Coriander for seed cultivation is grown as Rabi crop with sowing during October-November and harvesting is taking place in February-March. The crop matures in about 110 to 140 days. At maturity, seeds turn to yellowish green color. Coriander requires cool climate during growth stage and warm dry climate at maturity.
Common use of coriander seed is in curry powders.The seeds can be likewise used in stews and soups. Coriander is an ingredient of garam masala, pickling spices and pudding spices and soused in cakes, breads and other baked foods. The green leaves used in various vegetables and cuisines for improved aroma and taste. It is also used as ayurvedic and unani medicine for various diseases.
India is the largest producer of coriander. Morocco, Canada, Pakistan, Romania and Russia are the major producers.
In India Rajasthan (54%) is the biggest producer followed by Madhya Pradesh (17%), Gujarat (6.9), Assam (6.6%), and Andhra Pradesh (3.5). The three largest markets are Kota, Ramganj Mandi and Baran in Rajasthan. Coriander seeds also trading on NCDEX and MCX future markets.
India is the largest exporter of coriander seed Morocco, Bulgaria, Canada, Pakistan, Russia and Romania are other exporters. European Union, USA, Singapore and the Gulf countries (UAE, Kuwait, and Oman), Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Guatemala are major importers. Know More About Jeera (Cumin seeds)

Cumin seed, commonly known as Jeera, (Cuminum cyminum) is an oblong shaped dried fruit about 4-5 mm long sharp flavored and dark brown colored aromatic spice. It is an annual plant, with a slender branched stem 20–30 cm tall. The fruit is a lateral spindle-shaped 4–5 mm long, containing a single seed. Cumin seeds are similar to fennel and anise seeds in appearance, but are smaller and darker in color. Cumin seed are used as an ingredient in some pickles and pastries. Cumin in grounded form also forms part of various spicy mixtures, most important being ‘Garam masala’ which are used to add pungent flavors to the dishes and cuisines. It is globally popular and an essential flavoring in many cuisines. In Ayurvedic system of medicine, dried Cumin seeds are used for medicinal purposes. It is used in different forms like kashaya (decoction), arishta (fermented decoction) and vati (tablet/pills). Jeera is grown as a Rabi crop in India and it is also grown well in sub-tropical climate too. Generally jeera crop takes about 120-125 days to reach maturity level. Harvesting of jeera is done in the month of February-March. Jeera crop is highly sensitive to rain, if rain occurs during harvesting time (February to March) quality of the Jeera will be badly affected besides quantity damage (due to fungal diseases). India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of jeera seed in the world. India contributes about 70% of world production followed by Syria 15%, Turkey 6%, China 4% and Iran 3%, respectively. Pakistan and USA are other producers. In India, Gujarat 80% and Rajasthan 15% are the two major jeera producing states in the country. West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab make minor contribution to Indian output. Delhi, Jaipur and Rajkot are the major terminal markets for jeera. NCDEX, MCX and NMCE are major future markets. India, Syria, Turkey and Iran Are the Major Exporters. United States, Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Nepal and Malaysia are the major importing countries. Canada, UK and USA import cumin seed powder from India.

India the largest producer, consumer and importer of pulses is counted amongst the biggest Pulses Producer in the world & stands for around 25% Pulses production in the world. Chick peas (chana), Moong, Masoor, Urad, Arhar/ Tur are the top 5 pulses grown in India and account for around 80 % of the total pulses production in the India. Around 60% Pulses are grown in Rabi Season. Pulses import in India is increasing and now it counts for about 15–20 % of total domestic availability. India imports white peas, green peas (dried) from Canada and the US, while Myanmar supplies Urad beans, Mung beans and Pigeon peas. India also imports dried peas and chickpeas from Australia, chickpeas from Tanzania, dry peas from France and red kidney beans from China. Moong and Urad are two major pulses in top 5 pulses. Here you will know more about Moong and Urad crop in India and Crop Season, Export, Import and Consumption in India. Moong (Green Gram) Green gram is also known as Mung/Moong bean, is the seed of Vigna radiata which is native to Indian subcontinent. In India Moong is grown in two seasons, Jujy-August (kharif) and March-April (summer). Moong is mostly grown as a kharif crop in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh etc. But in Tamilnadu, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh & Bihar it is grown as a summer crop. Green gram is widely cultivated throughout the Asia. India is the largest producer of moong. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and south China are the other major producers. Africa, U.S.A. Australia has been recently introduced. It is spreading in many other Countries. In India, Rajasthan (30%) and Maharashtra (17.73%) are the two major Moong producer of country contributes about 50% of total production. Andhra Pradesh (10.32%), Bihar (8.59%), Odisha (6.37%), Gujarat (6.18%), Karnataka (5.53%), UP (4.39%), Tamil Nadu (3.85%) and MP (2.58%) are other major Moong producing states of the country. Urad (Black Gram) Urad also called as Black gram or Black Apte is a leguminous crop it is small sized pulse seed having black coated it seed contains starch, soluble sugars, fiber and unavailable carbohydrates. Urad is consumed in the form of split pulse as well as whole pulse and flour which is an essential supplement of cereal based diet. It is mainly used in the preparation of fermented foods such as idli, vada, papad, dosa, and other regional foods. In India Urad mainly sown as a kharif crop, but also grown in Rabi season to some part of country. It is relatively short crop duration of 80- 100 days. The seeds are sown in the months of February-March, June-July and October according to the areas in which it is cultivated. In northern India, it is grown in summer and Kharif season whereas in southern India, it is grown in Kharif and Rabi season. India is the largest producer and consumer of Black Gram in the world. Other producing countries are Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Bangladesh, Canada, Iran, Greece and East African countries. The major producing states in India are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Andhra Pradesh is the largest producing state contributing for about 24 per cent of total country’s output followed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh with 20 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively. Import: India imports urad mainly from Myanmar to meet the domestic demand. India, China, Pakistan, Japan and European countries are other importers.
