Indian theatre has many true elements of a narrative which has made theatre so rich and popular. The history of theatre goes back 5000 years. It started pff with Bharat Muni who created a narrative, Natyashastra. This was classified as theatre and it had then became an independent form of expression. Indian theatre has three parts; theatre in ancient India, theatre in medieval India, and contemporary Indian theatre. Indian theatre is greatly influenced by mythologies but also has a wide range of themes. Theatre became a very vital technique of showing unedited realities of life. Later on, Indian theatre started valuing the multilingual aspect. Theatre has evolved so much in India it’s hard to classify it as one thing. Other regions of India have their own style of theatre and they have all formed into a bit of one another. Famous productions in Indian theatre did occur during and after the British Rule. Theatre was the weapon of protest against British Colonialism. 1943, Indian People’s Theatre Association was formed in Bombay. In the 50’s, Indian theatre changed the most, people were doing their own plays in different languages in a Western style. By the 70’s all the rich came to see this hybrid of play.
