Why Many Women Social Entrepreneurs Avoid Commercial Models

Why Many Women Social Entrepreneurs Avoid Commercial Models | Inclusive Business around the world | Scoop.it

Hybrid social ventures offer an exciting model for harnessing the power of business as a force for good. Hybrid organisations such as Grameen Bank and TOMS Shoes, for example, have fundamentally changed how we think about the purpose of business. Gender norms hobble women’s full participation in business model innovation, and our research suggests that female role models in the business community may help women social entrepreneurs make the leap towards commercialisation. But our study also shows that empowerment is only the beginning: Successful entrepreneurship also depends on access to resources, relationships and a host of other factors for which society has only just begun on the path to gender equity. Argentina includes Inclusive Business in its priority deliverables for G20 presidency | Inclusive Business around the world | Scoop.it

Under the Argentine Presidency claim “Building Consensus for Fair and Sustainable Development”, the DWG’s actions will be directed to promote inclusive economic growth. We are convinced  that economic growth is priceless as long as it contributes to expand possibilities so that either men or women could exploit their maximum potential and they can profit from the growth and development process.

It will focus its work in three main areas, granting gender transversability in each of them

Inclusive Business. This kind of business provides goods and services in a commercially viable way to people who represent the poorest segment of the population, either scaled or scalable, making them part of the value chain as suppliers, distributors, retailers or customers. They also contribute to empowering people and the communities where they live, by improving their quality of life and reducing poverty through the creation of genuine work. The G20 will continue facilitating learning, dialogue and exchanges of experiences and good practices.

Zurich Insurance ups 'impact investment' target to $5 bln

Zurich Insurance ups 'impact investment' target to $5 bln | Inclusive Business around the world | Scoop.it

Switzerland’s Zurich Insurance (ZURN.S) plans to more than double its “impact investments” to $5 billion (3.76 billion pounds), it said on Thursday, aiming to improve the lives of five million people a year. The target forms part of a move by insurers to tackle the causes of climate change and other social issues for which they often pick up the bill, including healthcare costs associated with tobacco use. Unlike other forms of sustainable or responsible investing, impact investments have a focus on measuring their effects against a set of pre-determined goals.

Disadvantaged groups in the labour market: OECD/EU report marks added value of entrepreneurship

Disadvantaged groups in the labour market: OECD/EU report marks added value of entrepreneurship | Inclusive Business around the world | Scoop.it

The Missing Entrepreneurs 2017 is the fourth edition in a series of publications that examine how public policies at national, regional and local levels can support job creation, economic growth and social inclusion by overcoming obstacles to business start-ups and self-employment by people from disadvantaged or under-represented groups in entrepreneurship. It shows that there is substantial potential to combat unemployment and increase labour market participation by facilitating business creation in populations such as women, youth, the unemployed, and migrants. However, the specific problems they face need to be recognised and addressed with effective and efficient policy measures.

Cumulative investment in impact investments in India since 2010 has been $5.2 billion. In many ways, 2015 was a turning point, as investments crossed $1 billion (Exhibit 1). Much of the growth has come from a doubling or more of average deal size, which rose to $17.6 million in 2016, from $7.6 million in 2010. The volume of deals has remained stable, at about 60 to 80 a year, demonstrating the emphasis on scaling new models of impact.
