They Didn't Even Know This Existed

They Didn't Even Know This Existed | TBA | Scoop.it

The Son Doong Cave in Vietnam is the biggest cave in the world. It's over 5.5 miles long, has a jungle and river, and could fit a 40-story skyscraper within its walls.

Laura Richards's insight:

Discovered by a local man who stopped on a hill while tending to his stock hearing sounds of water gushing below. Local men apparently were afraid of the area due to whistling sounds caused by an underground river. Amazing images. It is located close to the Laos-Vietnam border.

Overview – Experience | Virgin Galactic

Overview – Experience | Virgin Galactic | TBA | Scoop.it
Laura Richards's insight:

After two or three days of preparation with your crew you are ready ; the climb to 50,000 feet , countdown to be followed by a brief moment of silence before acceleration has you travelling in second at almost 2500mph, over 3 times the speed of sound.

Two large windows per passenger, with a maximum of 6 passengers on board with two pilots, you watch the sky turn from indigo blue to finally blackness.  The silence of space is awe inspiring, you experience the total absence of gravity with all your senses running in overdrive, you quickly focus on a blue map in the distance, familiar though with none of its usual marked boundaries.  You are viewing home.

The pilot announces after some time that the glide back home will commence any moment as you feel a powerful drag as the earth’s atmosphere increases.

Your view of your world will never be the same.

This experience was published in 2005, yesterday Virgin Galactic’s first rocket powered flight of Spaceship Two broke the speed of sound as it departed from California’s Mojave Air and Spaceport. The first commercial vehicle to break the speed of sound since the Concorde; in three months the flight will be faster than that of the Concorde.  The initial price tag of around US$250,000 will be some journey for those lucky enough to sign up to take the ride.
