A 3D printed future: 10 surprising things we could see printed soon | TED Blog

A 3D printed future: 10 surprising things we could see printed soon | TED Blog | Important Technologies of the future | Scoop.it
You can 3D print just about anything these days. But soon, you'll be able to 3D print meat, rocket parts, a house and a jumbo jet.
Emma Kate Evans's insight:

The 3D printer always held great potential, but now more than ever it seems like a logical step to explore further towards a better, more productive future. Just recently an article was released spreading the news that a man who was in a motorcycle accident went into surgery to replace his fractured jaw and part of his skull with 3D printed parts. It was a success and proved that if perfectly accurate skull fragments could be created for human implant, that there is almost no limit to what else it could create. This TED Blog gives us a glimpse into what creations are in store.

Shape-shifting claytronics: wild future here by 2020, experts say

Shape-shifting claytronics: wild future here by 2020, experts say | Important Technologies of the future | Scoop.it
Imagine a bracelet or watch that changes into something else when you take it off. Perhaps it becomes a cell phone, tablet, or computer. Although this scenario may seem like science fiction, this and much more will soon become reality with a ground-breaking new technology known as claytronics.
Emma Kate Evans's insight:

This concept seems a little far fetched at this point in time but its an amazing thought. The fact that they reckon that they will have small Claytronic shape-shifting objects fully functional within the next 6 years says that the technology, if it is sound and stable, will open up the doors to much bigger things.

life welfare in 2020 (#holycrap Watch your day in 2020 [ Future Technology ] [HD]: http://t.co/zFlXqgw1xL via @YouTube)
Emma Kate Evans's insight:

The projected future of touch screen devices through Corning Incorporation Specialty Glass. The potential of this seems almost endless. An almost perfect world of full technology cross compatibility and all in 1 multimedia devices. But it does seem a little too good to be true. I believe that competition between rival companies will be the only thing holding back this utopia. But what a fantastic concept!

Never drop or lose your phone again and get a new fashion accessory for your wrist. This Sony concept Smartphone/watch opened my eyes in a new direction for future communications. Phone, application manager, minicomputer with holographic imaging. Just imagine what it would be like with Myo Armband* technology incorporated into the system.

*The Myo Armband uses the electrical activity in your muscles as indicators to use your hand as a wireless controller for anything from a computer, phone or digital technology.

2020 vision: The future of Google Glass

2020 vision: The future of Google Glass | Important Technologies of the future | Scoop.it
How Google glass can help save lives, fully immerse us in a new AR world, turn us all into citizen journalists and change the way we watch sport.
Emma Kate Evans's insight:

The Google Glass, the new Augmented Reality glasses, have already taken its first steps out into the world and has already proved itself as a popular social mediator. But its true potential has only just been realised in the hands of Dr's and surgeons as they test it on receiving patient records and vital signs from anywhere in the hospital and virtual surgery training. But this is only the beginning. With the not so gentle push from META (AR rival) there should be some amazing things to come.

Meta - SpaceGlasses

Meta - SpaceGlasses | Important Technologies of the future | Scoop.it
Emma Kate Evans's insight:

Augmented Reality: Meta is Google Glass's competition. They appear to be going a different way with their technology though. Their vision is a fully immersed Augmented Reality to sit on top of out reality. The idea of being able to create and sculpt inside this AR world then send these ideas to 3D printers to make them a reality. This holographic technology will only get bigger and better, or in this case smaller and better, I wonder if they will do contact lenses?
