This story is told by the "Spam Queen" who was persecuted early on for using her online service. She began commercial emailing which took marketing to the next level. It talks about the importance of mailing lists and how profitable it was. Mailing lists could be a double edge sword. Once you give out your email, it is no longer yours and can be sold to any company looking to market to you. It is important for companies to want to gain the trust of their consumers and to not sell any mailing lists. Laws are formulating around how companies should or should not be using mailing lists. With FB, a company may have a lot more freedom to market to people by researching what he or she may be interested in. Which again could lead into some privacy issues. It is best to try and fail and see what works for your company. Each strategy is different and could help one succeed in different ways.
