How Social Media Influences Business [INFOGRAPHIC]
Lily-rose's insight:

Some really interesting facts! I really enjoy these infographics from 'All Twitter' .

"More than a quarter of all time spent online is now devoted to social networking? A decade or so ago social platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest didn’t even exist. In that short period of time social media has changed the world, and the business of social media has never been more important"

Social media is very much a business tool, a direct link to consumers that i'm sure will only evolve to become stronger and more interactive. Part it's success in the business context is probably the win-win situations it creates. Download our new app, give me your demographics and you can have a free popcorn upgrade. What surprised me in this article was the popularity of B2B social media with 91% of B2B marketers using social media as content marketing tool.

Women Dominate Social Media [INFOGRAPHIC]
Lily-rose's insight:

I found this piece of knowledge interesting and thought provoking, to look at social media from this perspective creates implications and opportunities. Should social media as a channel in an IMC program be  targeted more towards women? as women are more likely to interact. Behind these billion dollar social media websites are women! (pinterest, instagram, tumblr). Will it become a girl territory soon? should social media no longer be a key channel when targeting men? Overall helpful insight for marketers when developing an IMC campaign

How Coca-Cola uses co-creation to crowdsource new marketing ideas

How Coca-Cola uses co-creation to crowdsource new marketing ideas | IMC | Scoop.it
When Coca-Cola’s ad agencies ran out of ideas for a marketing brief, the company decided to turn to an online community to crowdsource some ideas.
Lily-rose's insight:

Thought this was really cool! Coca-cola using co-creation via eYeka to get consumers to design new ideas for their future marketing activity off a brief. Social media helps to fuel discussion, but not as vehicle for the initiative, as it doesn't hold the right participants (target market) for the competition. The result are awesome!!

Twitter Hires First Head of Commerce | Social Media Today | IMC | Scoop.it
A study of 250 luxury brands showed that over the past four years, less than 0.25% of new customers have come through Facebook and less than 0.1% have come from Twitter.

Lily-rose's insight:

"Customer Relationship Management has always been the best form of use for social media rather than sales, so will this move get rid of creative advertising/social media campaigns by brands if they can make users buy their product instantly" - i'm not a fan, for the very short period of time i've been part of the 'Twittersphere' I don't see where the two objectives meet? The beauty of Twitter to me, is it's simplicity, the creativity needed to have an effective campaign with 140 characters and the potential results if you get it right. Twitter has had issues finding it's 'place' in the social media realm (a fb with just statuses, an instagram without pictures). I can see where Twitter is coming from in terms of increasing revenue but it appears to be a change in vision?

Parents of the kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls are hoping for a miracle. So far, all they have is a hashtag. - New Zealand Herald
Lily-rose's insight:

A very interesting article, that looks at Twitter lovers and Twitter haters. Some love how it has facilitated such a global growth in interest, others merely pin it to apathy. Can all this Tweets be used for anything other than informing?

5 Ways The Kardashian Family Built A $65 Million Brand | IMC | Scoop.it
You may not make thousands from nightclub appearances, but you can still learn a tip or two from the famed Kardashians.
Lily-rose's insight:

The Kardashians have built a huge brand empire, part of this success is due to their connection with consumers through social media. They all use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram - collectively on Twitter they have 13 million followers. Social media also facilitates their brand leveraging and makes them relatable, for a free media channel they definitely owe credit to it's contribution to their $US 65million brand worth.

No-makeup selfies on Facebook won't beat cancer alone
The Guardian
About 48 hours ago, a number of self-portraits appeared on my Facebook feed.
Lily-rose's insight:

Such a divide in opinions! one thing is for sure,  it spread like wild fire and got people talking. So how effective has it been in reaching the end objective: raising money for breast cancer?  But any attention is good attention right?  whilst also spurring further debate on other issues - feminism, misogyny, vanity to name a few. From a Marketing perspective, viral contagion yes, however I am not convinced as to the strength of it's brand relation. To the extent where I had to google the 'brand' behind it/where one would donate. The support the cause is receiving is exceptional but the missed opportunity (donations) from a lack of integration is the clear error here.
