Fun Tutorial Friday: Make a street lamp using illustrator!

Fun Tutorial Friday: Make a street lamp using illustrator! | Illustrate This | Scoop.it

This tutorial is pretty lengthy, but there are some really useful tips in here.

Take step 3 for example, I had no idea that you could revolve a line into a 3d image in this program!

Even if you don't try to make this yourself, you should take a look at all of the steps. Like I said, there are some pretty useful things in this tutorial.

Poster Design Wednesday: Create an edgy movie poster

Poster Design Wednesday: Create an edgy movie poster | Illustrate This | Scoop.it

I thought this tutorial was pretty sweet. My favorite part was when the tutorial showed me how to "crop the image on a diagonal" to fit it into the poster.

I want to go create one of these posters now!

Web design: Create an image map in Adobe Illustrator

Web design: Create an image map in Adobe Illustrator | Illustrate This | Scoop.it

I haven't dealt with image maps in years. I kind of forgot they existed. Sometimes they add a little something to your navigation within your website.

For those of you that don't know what an image map is, check out this website. It's a cool way to make a banner with built in navigation. And, a few programs in the creative suite make it really easy to make one yourself. It even gives you the html when you are finished!

Tutorial: Creating Road Maps in Adobe Illustrator

Create a road map using Illustrator!

While it is possible to go to Google Maps and put it into your website (I love doing this, it's awesome), creating one yourself can add a little something to your design. As far as I am aware, you can't change the appearance of a Google Map, and the colors might clash horribly with your design.

Even if you don't plan on creating a road map, there are elements in this tutorial that could prove useful.

Bonnie, all of your finds have been FANTASTICALLY informative and awesome! Out of all the Adobe products (Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) that the HDMZ has, Illustrator has been the one program that I haven't been as comfortable with. Thanks for the tutorial! It's a great help to me as I try to find my way around the program.

How Color Choices in Your Web Design Impact the Viewer Experience

This website provides helpful tips to make your web design appealing to your audience.

A tip I found particularly useful was this, "Choose no more than 3 – 5 colors and then use them thematically throughout the website. More than that and you’re taking your visitors through a confusing emotional roller-coaster of color."

Design: Color scheme designer?!

Whoa. I just stumbled upon this website recently, and let me tell you, it's awesome.

You pick a color on the color wheel, and it shows you other shades that go well with it as well as the hex values.

Also, you can view the color scheme in action as a light page or a dark page!

I might just play with this for awhile to see what I can come up with.

How to Add Fonts to Illustrator

So I've talked a little about font choices when designing something on Illustrator, but I never consided mentioning how to install new fonts.

There are times when the default Mac and Windows fonts just don't cut it. Once you know how to install new fonts, all you need to do is find them.

And let me suggest to you www.dafont.com. I'll talk about it in a later post, don't worry.

Using Adobe Illustrator for Web Design

Using Adobe Illustrator for Web Design | Illustrate This | Scoop.it
Most people think of Photoshop & Fireworks when they think web design. But what about Illustrator? Here's why we think it's a great tool.

Photoshop is great if you already know how to use the program, but it can be frustrating if you do not know where all of the options are.

I've only recently discovered that Illustrator is incredibly helpful in web design, even if you don't go any further than using it to create a mock up!
