Flip Your Classroom with this Teaching Strategy: Pass the Problem - Flip It Consulting

Flip Your Classroom with this Teaching Strategy: Pass the Problem - Flip It Consulting | iEduc | Scoop.it
Moving from lecturing to becoming a facilitator of learning can be risky. Sometimes we aren’t prepared for those feelings of uncertainty. This is why I always conclude my “Flip a Lesson” workshop with a candid conversation about the shifting role of the instructor in the flipped classroom. Your comfort level, your ability to harness those nerves, and your willingness to take risks significantly influences the success of the flipped learning experience.

This article provides step by step directions for a hands on exercise designed for the face to face teaching environment. The flip here is for the Professor to step away from the podium and get adults working together.

With a few tweaks this could be a strong online activity as well!

Kiruthika Ragupathi's curator insight, June 11, 2015 9:25 PM

This post provides one specific flipped strategy to try in your class to help you become more comfortable with how it feels when your role changes and you involve your students in the learning process. The author calls “Pass the Problem” where the flip is in getting "the Professor to step away from the podium and get participants working together".

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom: Curating Content with @appoLearning

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom: Curating Content with @appoLearning | iEduc | Scoop.it
“ Curation, as many of you know, is near and dear to my heart. (Heck I even wrote a book on the subject!) And especially now, for teachers, its becoming increasingly important as more and more digital devices begin to enter the classroom. Finding the right apps, videos or other digital resources can be tough. And keeping it all organized can be even tougher. I was excited to learn about appoLearning. This is a great resource where educators can find and share all the digital resources they are curating. All of the resources found there are vetted by other educators so you can trust that what you are search for will be the best of the best. Recently they unveiled Collections. And this is something I am really excited about.”

Tony Guzman's curator insight, June 15, 2015 2:44 PM

This article shares an updated version of KWL (What do I Know, What do I Want to know and what have I Learned). How many use this in their classrooms?

Ellen Dougherty's curator insight, August 1, 2015 11:49 AM

Check out this new version of the KWL chart by Silvia Rosenthal Tomlison. What we once called KWL is now the KWHLAQ.

* K stands for  'What do you KNOW?'

* W stands for 'What do you WANT to know?'

* H stands for 'HOW will you find out?'

* L stands for 'What have your LEARNED?'

* A stands for 'What ACTION will you take?'

* Q stands for 'What further QUESTIONS do you have?'

This new visual also includes suggestions under each category to help students make their "thinking and learning visible." For more information click through to the post.
