Light Blue Touchpaper » Blog Archive » Authentication is machine learning

Last week, I gave a talk at the Center for Information Technology Policy at Princeton. My goal was to expand my usual research talk on passwords with broader predictions about where authentication is going. From the reaction and discussion afterwards one point I made stood out: authenticating humans is becoming a machine learning problem.

A computer scientist has come up with a proposal to replace cryptography's Alice and Bob with characters from Hindu mythology.

For decades, techniques to encrypt and decrypt communications have been explained using two imaginary characters, Alice and Bob, and potential eavesdropper Eve. Alice and Bob first came to light in 1978 in a groundbreaking paper [PDF] on the RSA algorithm for public-key cryptography.

3 Most Common Phishing Scams

3 Most Common Phishing Scams | Identity & payments | Scoop.it

A recent report by the Securities and Exchange Commission (www.sec.gov), indicates that phishing is on the rise. In fact, phishing is the kind of cybercrime an average user is most likely to encounter on a day-to-day basis.
