As I close up on my research, I have started to really think about what it means to be an activist. This article really sums it up for me. If you really think about, there are so many outlets through social media for activism to be present and thriving. Although the internet is also an outlet for hate, racism, and discrimination, this Baltimore resident who chose to intertwine his passion for photography and his experience as a black man in Baltimore defines activism for me. Devin's "photographs of the demonstrations — peaceful at first, then more violent — grabbed the headlines: they were featured on the BBC and CNN, and shared by thousands of Twitter and Instagram users, including Rihanna." Through this use of social media and the internet, hopefully we can each utilize our potential to be activists.

Pour le sociologue, ce ne sont pas les immigrés qui menacent la France, mais la xénophobie. Et la gauche devrait reprendre la main dans un débat en pleine dérive.

Robert Fisk: Arab Spring has washed the region's appalling racism out of the news

How many tracts, books, documentaries, speeches and doctoral theses have been written and produced about Islamophobia?

How can a so-called journalist write some trash from a couple of examples without minimal research. Justifying his own islamophobic views from a couple of Youtube videos is something you would expect from uneducated, unguided teenagers. These are certainly terrible events that deserve publicy and public reaction. Questions need to be asked about the policies in those countries (inasmuch as the policies in every single countries in the world including the "democratic" ones.) Instead, the author's rant, as he recognizes himself, is only a broad generalization that would only appeal to our prejudices that have been magnified by the media.
