Quote "On that subject of the rich trove of intellectual at the lab’s disposal, in the form of Lucasfilm’s most popular franchises – Star Wars and beyond – Gaeta is quite clear that the lab isn’t interested in milking those beloved IPs in VR and AR just for the sake of it. “We think that immersive platforms like VR and AR are not to be left in the realm of marketing fodder only, we think that that is a platform unto itself, an equal to cinema for example – or it will be at some point,” an encouraging standpoint in the wake of a seemingly endless wave of VR-centric marketing initiatives."

4 Mistakes Marketers Make With Their Personal Brand on Twitter…and How to Correct Them

4 Mistakes Marketers Make With Their Personal Brand on Twitter…and How to Correct Them | Biblioteca | Scoop.it
Over time, I have learned through careful, and not so careful, trial & error how to be relevant to my particular audience, and I am achieving better results because of it.

Cultivating a strong presence on Twitter has many benefits: you support your organization’s marketing efforts, you can use it to sell socially, you can build your personal brand, or any combination of these things. With all these benefits, I have wondered, why do some of my fellow marketing and sales professionals still struggle to gain traction on such a promising channel?

Based on my first-hand observations, marketers and sales-people don’t treat their personal brand enough like a real brand. Here are four common mistakes they make when using Twitter and how to correct them:

It's That Time of Year! Paper Crafts in the Library

It's That Time of Year! Paper Crafts in the Library | Biblioteca | Scoop.it

We had so much fun with this last year, and now I have a part-time aide and FIVE student aides to help! We have three 49 minute lunch periods this year, so I need all the help I can get:) First lunch is all 6th graders, and they are the most enthusiastic crafters.  They've already filled some windows with snowflakes, and promise me many more tomorrow now that they have the hang of it.

This is such a great project for this time of year. We play relaxing music, students mix at different tables to learn from others how to make new things, and they're engaged in making!

I’ve got a little something to confess. I’m one of those parents who reads stories aloud and does ALL the voices. From high pitched squirrels to bellowing giants my range is really something to behold… Well at least to my children’s ears it is. But you don’t have to be a vocal gymnast to turn stories into audio adventures. Whether it’s for a family car trip or to help your kids drift off at night, audio books are an amazingly fun and very affordable alternative to printed and digital books.

All of the books in this list are available for free as part of an Audible trial and with apps for just about every device, these wonderful books are more accessible and engaging than ever! So, let’s kick this off with our twenty one best audio books for kids!

Comprehensive List of Free e-Book Websites for your e-Reader

Comprehensive List of Free e-Book Websites for your e-Reader | Biblioteca | Scoop.it

If you own an e-reader you often can only buy e-books from the bookstore that is bundled on your device. Many of the budget e-readers out there don’t even have a bookstore that is accessible by users and many people are left to fend for themselves to load content on it.

Here is a comprehensive free e-book resource catalog online. All of these books are hardware agnostic, which means they are not locked by DRM (Digital Rights Management). All you have to do is simply download a title and load in via the USB cable from your computer to your e-reader. Many of these sites also provide the books in more than one format, so they will work with your Amazon Kindle, Kobo, Barnes and Noble Nook, Sony e-reader and hundreds of others.

Gary Hayes's curator insight, June 8, 2016 10:34 PM
Quote "Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are the next big step forward in education, and these technologies are good for educators and students alike. Educators will be able to capture the attention of their students like never before and get them more actively involved in the classroom. Students are always trying to do what’s cool and what’s new; utilizing VR and AR technology in classrooms will appeal to students because it’s the latest and greatest thing and it’s very cool to use. Using VR and AR technology will not only make learning more interesting and exciting to students but it will also increase retention because it engages them in a way which textbooks simply cannot compete with. These technologies give us a window into the future of education, and it probably won’t be long until it is standard for classrooms to come equipped with some form of VR or AR technology."

Karyn Peterson gives a great perspective on the maker space movement in this School Library Journal article. Librarians in a rush to jump into "Makerspaces" might want to take a breath and look at the activities that already take place in the library. Sure, we'd all love to have 3D printers and robotics, but for many school librarians, that's just not financially feasible.

So, what about some low tech activities that can easily be rebranded? Instead of an arts and crafts program after schoo...
