Nuno Bernardes, will be giving a talk entitled “The modulation of membrane biophysical properties in cancer cells by azurin and its relation to anti-cancer drug resistance”, Monday the 17th April, at 12h30m, in room QA1.3, South Tower, IST (Alameda). The seminar will highlight progress made on the anti-cancer activity of the bacterial-derived protein azurin, particularly the modulation of membrane biophysical properties of cancer cells and the abrogation of drug resistance. Nuno Bernardes is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at BSRG-iBB. His research has focused on the understanding of how bacterial-derived proteins, or derived peptides, may have an impact in the management of human diseases, namely cancer, aiming at their therapeutic use. The talk is included in the 2nd Edition of iBB seminars.

The seminar will highlight progress made on the use of Silica capsules (SC) are ideal candidates for bioencapsulation studies, because they are a non-toxic and biocompatible material (GRAS). Her research has focused on the areas of applications of miniemulsions system in nanocarriers and biopolymer synthesis, and molecular studies of protein-solvent and protein –protein interactions in biphasic systems. Tiago Fernandes, will be giving a talk entitled “Stem Cell Biosystems Engineering”, Monday the 10th April, at 12h30m, in room QA1.3, South Tower, IST (Alameda). The seminar will highlight progress made on integrated platforms that brings together engineering and biology in order to accelerate progress towards designing the stem cell fate and its microenvironment. Tiago Fernandes is currently an Assistant Professor ate DBE, IST and a Research Associate at SCERG-iBB. His research has focused on the development of predictive models of signaling networks from raw data, study the dynamic regulation of pluripotency circuit components, and gain new insights into the regulatory mechanisms underlying multilineage cell specification, ultimately enabling novel tools for Regenerative and Precision Medicine, including stem cell-based therapies, and thus positively impacting health and welfare. The talk is included in the 2nd Edition of iBB seminars.
