Two ways Google Plus will change how nonprofits connect with their supporters

Two ways Google Plus will change how nonprofits connect with their supporters | What is Google Plus for non-profit organisations in Australia? | Scoop.it
Ian Hall's insight:

• Hangouts- Hangouts is a way to conduct group video conferencing with other Google+ users.

• Circles- Facebook and Twitter both allow users to put people in specific groupings or lists. But how many people use or even know about Facebook friends lists? Circles, on the other hand, put segmentation up front in their product – and they make it fun!

I could see organizations segmenting their donors, volunteers, partners into a various different circles.

I wish I had never heard of Google+’s brand pages
NOVEMBER 8, 2011 BY ROBERT SCOBLE 106 COMMENTS

OK, you all know I’m Google+’s biggest fan, right? For the past five months I’ve poured almost all my time into my Google+ account, which has paid off with a fun community and a lot of followers.
But yesterday Google+ rolled out brand pages. Here’s all the relevant news about that on Techmeme.
I wish I had never heard of them.
Why not?
Well, when you work for a public company anything you post as a representative of that company needs to be done very carefully (I work on the media team at Rackspace, going around the world studying the bleeding edge of the technology industry). The problem is that there’s no editorial tools for anything posted to our Google+ account. Google+ brand accounts are woefully inadequate for public companies’ needs. Let’s discuss some of the limitations:

12 Google+ Best Practices for Nonprofits

12 Google+ Best Practices for Nonprofits | What is Google Plus for non-profit organisations in Australia? | Scoop.it

Rachael Johnston's curator insight, December 7, 2014 11:06 PM

This article focuses specifically on Nonprofit organizations, however, many of these tips can be used by other types of businesses as well, and can be used across different platforms as well.

Use pictures when sharing links. On most platforms, when you share links it will preview the website or you can add a picture. Do this to create a more visually appealing post than just sharing the URL.

Share other's content and link to other's pages to "foster good will" and create relationships, or potential allies.

Merge your YouTube channel with your Google+ account. This is make it easier for followers to navigate to your profiles, as well as help with SEO on both Google and YouTube.

Have more than one manage for your Google+ page. You should have more than one person managing all of your social media accounts. It is best just in case you are too busy or away. But be careful! Make sure that your personality is consistent and that all content is professional. Make sure that you or one of the other managers is regularly monitoring Google+ Insight.

One that I never thought of was reserving your Google+ URL, making it easy for people to find your page. Ex: google.com/+businessname

Create events for Google+ Hangouts. Google+ allows you to create events where communities can come together and engage in real-time conversation.

Last but not least, Google is in the process of making a "donate" call-to-action buttons for NonProfits. When thesis set up, all NonProfits should sign up to make it quick and easy for people to donate

Google+ makes sharing online more like sharing in real life.
Ian Hall's insight:
Google+ for Nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations work with so many different groups of people: volunteers, individual donors, funders, their boards, the general public, and more. Google+ helps nonprofits and causes engage with all these different groups of people in a customized way.
