This book gives us an incredible insight into the first encounters between the British settlers and Indigenous Australians. Once again we are given an opportunity to imagine what Indigenous Australians observed when the British fleets arrived rather than the other way around. This book is filled with original texts created by the British soldiers during the first few years of settlement. I believe it is terribly important for students to understand the true history of Australia not only from the point of view of the white settlers but more importantly the history and experiences of the Indigenous Australians in which we invaded.
