The National Portrait Gallery uses images and portraiture to increase the understanding of the Australian people, including their identity, culture, creativity, diversity, and history.  The gallery displays roughly 400 portraits of the people who have shaped, and continue to shape, Australia. As well as being a gallery, it also includes education and school group areas to cater for educational needs for teaching students history and culture in a different way.

They provide a variety for school excursion, both indoors and outdoors, and above and below ground to ensure a fun experience for all. Students get the chance to become part of history through learning about the Goldrush and participating in interactive activities and even get the chance to search for gold.

Each of the stories is sourced from indigenous communities across Australia, demonstrating the cultural spread and diversity of Indigenous Australia. The Dreaming stories can be used in the classroom to inform students of the cultures of the Australian Aboriginal people, and their histories. The stories come with a teacher’s guide accompaniment, which includes teaching materials such as map images locating each story, text of each story, backgrounds on the storytellers, suggested teaching strategies, and the participating communities.

Although timelines are a way to organise historical information, the inclusion of dates alone do not allow students to visualise the time being referred to, and create a clear image in their heads. Dipity is a useful resource that can assist students to relate their visual images of events in history with the corresponding dates. Dipity allows students to create their own timelines including any pictures and information they desire, and can make timelines on anything they like.

The Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Centre which not only serves as a memorial  for the 6 million Jewish people who were murdered, but also as an educational centre which has programs that aim to combat racism and prejudice in the community and raise understanding between people. The museum displays a wide variety of artefacts, texts and photos which all relate to the holocaust and has programs that include: An introduction to the Holocaust, a brief documentary, a survivor testimony, a guided tour of the museum displays, and a reflection and farewell.

TED Talks are an incredibly valuable resource where individuals from around the world discuss and give their opinions on a wide variety of topics in an interesting and engaging way. These talks are beneficial to use for not only teacher’s professional development, but can be used to spark discussion within the class to talk about their own opinions and points of view on certain matters. The talks are more age and content appropriate for older students, in the upper primary as younger students will not be able to comprehend the discussion to a full extent. Even though the content may not even be appropriate for upper primary students, ideas can be drawn from the talks and only certain points discussed.

This YouTube video is the reaction and thoughts that children have towards a Cheerios commercial that has gained negative attention for having a mixed race family portrayed in the advertisement. The video discusses topics of racism and its effect on individuals and communities from the perspective of multiple children ranging in age, but all hold similar views. This resource could be used in the classroom to raise discussions and issues around racism and racial equality.
