Slavery must be recognised in all its guises

Gulnara Shahinian: Sex trafficking is the only human rights abuse that gets proper attention – yet slavery is slavery, no matter what form it takes

Sophie Graham's insight:

I'm really tired of the ignorance of the public and youth of developed and western countries. Where ever you go, you are presented with a fruit of slavery. Every chain store, every thing labelled "made in china", was crafted by underpaided workers exploited because of their desperation to live and support their families. If you believe you have no part in supporting slavery, you are almost certainly incorrect.

I believe that slavery must be recognized in all of its guises. It cannot be solved if it is not fully recognized, and therefore should be addressed fully. I feel that the world should not hide slavery, but show what is actually happening, to prevent it. All forms of slavery are a serious violation of human rights, and therefore bigger pro cautions should be made to finally stopping slavery.

PAKISTAN: Young women held in military torture cells and forced into sexual slavery — Asian Human Rights Commission

Ms. Zarina Marri, a 23-year-old schoolteacher from Balochistan province, was arrested in late 2005, and has been held incommunicado in an army torture cell at Karachi, the capital of Sindh province.

Sophie Graham's insight:

This is absolutely atrocious. You'd think we as humans could be rational enough and civil enough to have left this form of abuse, exploitation and domination behind long before the 21st century.
