heebamartin's insight:

I have spent a lot of time on this blog talking about how much I miss London, its culture, and the person that it made me. But there is a very large piece of it that strangely I have not written about much, even though it is probably the single most impactful part of my time there. It’s the reason I was there in the first place, Hult International Business School.

Exactly one year ago today, I crossed the stage at Central Hall Westminster and was handed the thing I was working for all year, my Masters degree in International Marketing. It wasn’t the easiest thing I ever accomplished, but it also wasn’t the hardest, which I think allowed me to appreciate and enjoy it even more. As a relatively new program/school, it wasn’t perfect. But as I’ve told numerous prospective students, I wouldn’t have changed a single thing because it was everything I needed it to be.

What Hult taught me about marketing was 100% worth it. The practical education and opportunity to really implement the theories we learned were things that you cannot find in many schools. I use my Hult education every day not only in practical applications, but in the way I think about and approach projects. These things alone would have been enough to call Hult a win, but what really made the difference for me was the people. It’s the people that made me love Hult, and really, it’s the people that made me love London.

So today, rather than lamenting once again about how much I miss London as a city, I want to write about how grateful I am to Hult for the amazing humans that it brought into my life. That one year later, I can confidently state that I have friends all around the world. There isn’t a country or continent that I would hesitate to visit because I know there will be someone there to show me the ropes. Uprooting your life and moving to another country can be terrifying, and it has the potential to be a horrible experience if you don’t build a support system of people pretty early on. That is the fear I’m sure each and every one of us faced when we first made the decision to come to Hult, but the fear was dissipated almost immediately the second we all came together. Because despite our different backgrounds and experiences, we all had one thing in common – being in this big, beautiful city with absolutely no idea what comes next. It was the kind of experience that makes you question why so many people in this world can’t get along because of cultural differences. It baffles the mind how so many people can stereotype and discriminate – because as soon as you open your mind and your heart to different and new people, you immediately learn just how similar we all are.

1157629_506460132757663_494909366_nI love each and every one of my Hultians. These are the kind of friends that last a lifetime. That no matter how many thousands of miles separate you from them, you know the moment you see them again, it will be just like it always was. Maybe we can’t all talk to each other as often as we want – life and time zones can get in the way – but I know we will always still be there for one another no matter what. My couch is always open for these brilliant people, and I know they’d all do the same for me.

I don’t want to talk about missing London today, but I do miss Hult. I miss my people. I miss the Yorkshire and Be At One and staying up till the sun rises. I miss cramped house parties and the late night exodus to the Winchester for a dance party. I miss never being bored or alone because I always had someone to call on. I miss spending entire days/nights in a breakout room, eating copious amounts of Papa Johns, Pret, and La Scampa sandwiches, stressing until the final second, but delivering work I was terribly proud of in the end. I miss pub crawls in Shoreditch. I miss Tequila Tuesdays that grew in attendance every week. I miss meeting someone for the first time, and them saying “oh, right, Kerri, you drink tequila and have a poodle.” I miss not being afraid to say “yes” to crazy adventures. I miss Facebook groups and memes and earnestly trying to hold in laughter. I miss getting drunk off free wine at school events. I miss free wine. I miss cider on ice. I miss trip snugs and travel and almost burning down Hyde Park. I miss the lives we led together, all us crazy people who dropped everything to move to the greatest city in the world. That’s it though. That’s what I miss the most. Having people around who get it; people who think how I think, and see the world as I see it. Those are the kinds of people you hold on to forever, and I plan to.

So happy one year, Hult! I’d love to hear how you all are doing and reminisce about the good ol’ days, so get it poppin’ in the comments. <3

heebamartin's insight:

If I had to use one word to describe Hult's atmosphere, it would be international. The faculty members are very open-minded and professional, always ready to respond the students' problems.

I arrived in Shanghai on a Saturday evening; just after I had checked into the dorm, I was with my suitcases waiting for the elevator, when I saw several young people chatting in the lobby. Of course they turned out to be Hult students, and we got chatting. They were going on a pub crawl in Shanghai, and invited me to join. So, by my second hour in the city, I had already got to know most of my classmates and was going out to experience Shanghai's nightlife. It was a really positive start to my life at Hult.

Hult Review and Technology-The changing Modern B School

Hult Review and Technology-The changing Modern B School | EDUCATION | Scoop.it

Way back to 1960–70, students used to calculate by hands, only source of additional information was library, education was confined within the national boundary and it was almost impossible to get the knowledge about what is happening in the outside world except newspapers and educational journals published monthly or yearly by the research institutions.
