Philadelphia Artist Timothy Gierschick works in Form, Color and Movement

Philadelphia Artist Timothy Gierschick works in Form, Color and Movement | Local Prospects Weekly | Scoop.it
I discovered the work of Philadelphia artist Timothy Gierschick while
touring a converted industrial space at The LOOM in Port Richmond,
Philadelphia. In retrospect I find this an intriguing context for
understanding Gierschick's visual vocabulary and aesthetic impetus. An
industrial space reminds us of the reductionism of forms and the repetition
and continuity of process found in the mass manufacturing of things. Mr.
Gierschick's paintings play with reductionism and repetition as well but
with a witty irony that points both to enduring connections of abstracted
forms and the friable nature of things. In the Pythagorean interplay of
Gierschick's colors and forms there is musicality, proportion, and a very
faint fragrance of immortality. About his work, Mr. Gierschick says, “Art
now is almost always about connections: making them; breaking them;
repairing them; looping them; pretending they exist; pretending they don’t.
And despite the abstracted nature of my own work, the deliberative act of
making connections is really the long, snaking backbone which – yes,
connects – all the work I make.”

Tim Gierschick is a Philadelphia based artist who has exhibited locally and
nationally. He received his B.A. from Messiah College. Gierschick works at
the Barnes Foundation, and was a founding member of the artist
collaborative gallery Tiger Strikes Astroid as well as director at Second
Space Arts in North Philadelphia. You can learn more about Tim Gierschick's
work on his website.

Build Social Media Equity, Then Spend It!

Build Social Media Equity, Then Spend It! | Local Prospects Weekly | Scoop.it

While I don’t believe that the richness of the online world can be reduced to a real estate analogy, that’s what I’m going with in order to explain the way humans work, especially in concert and in
community.

If you only give to the people and the community around you and never ask for help or for favors, people might still like you but they’ll never feel the sort of intimacy and humanity needed to really connect with you in a profound way. Instead of just building up brand equity by being the prettiest, smartest, most athletic or most altruistic person in the room, try asking for help; for favors.
