Marketing Guru Bonin Bough Embraces Consumer Promiscuity

Marketing Guru Bonin Bough Embraces Consumer Promiscuity | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Too many executives, the Sundial CMO says, are failing to adapt to increasingly fickle consumer habits.
Art Jones's insight:

Excerpt:

“I was talking to a cosmetics executive who said, ‘Our consumers used to be loyal. Now they are promiscuous. How do we get them to be loyal again?’ It’s not going to happen. What you should be doing is thinking about how to create a model for promiscuous consumers.

“[Companies that] are winning are all about discovery. They are Disney World for promiscuous consumers. Why wouldn’t retailers that sell only one brand [also] feature emerging brands? Why aren’t they showcasing brands built by influencers? Retailers are missing the mark about where the customer is.”

The Top 20 Elements That Add Credibility to Your Website - QuickSprout

The Top 20 Elements That Add Credibility to Your Website - QuickSprout | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Before you start trying to drive traffic to your website, you need to master one factor. I’m talking about credibility. Without a credible website, you’ll struggle to get more customers and increase conversions. Plus, credibility shows you’re trustworthy.

If you’re offering something without a trusted name or brand behind it, people will be hesitant to buy what you’re selling. Why? Well, with so many other options available on the market, it’s too easy for people to find what they’re looking for somewhere else. This goes for ecommerce stores, blogs, or any business that has a website. If a visitor sees a red flag on your website, they will leave.

Think AI Is Years Off? Think Again

Think AI Is Years Off? Think Again | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
AI has already made inroads across the marketing profession, from media buying to targeting, writes Hannah Mirza, global head of partnerships at MediaCom.
Art Jones's insight:

You work as a marketer and think AI will be the Futureshock felt many years into the future? Well, now is the time to reassess your strategic thinking.

Excerpt:

Marketers need to think about investing in their AI capabilities before they get desperate. The World Federation of Advertisers recently reported that 73% of marketers at major multinationals predict a future skills gap in AI, and Google is already sourcing experts from China.

The talent drought may be multiplicative, even, as academic scientists lured away by companies like Facebook, Amazon and Apple will be unavailable to teach the next generation of students.

Why young marketers are taking a different route to the top

Why young marketers are taking a different route to the top | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
While young marketers are still upbeat about their chances to advance their careers, the route to the top is increasingly unclear.
Art Jones's insight:

Excerpt:

Shrinking appetite for the CMO position

The CMO role is perhaps not as coveted as it once was among young marketers, who feel it isn’t possible to have a family and do the role justice, or maintain a healthy work/life balance. Others believe marketers would rather move into general management roles instead.

Art Jones's insight:

All marketers want the attention of their ideal prospect, yet we compete with all of our competitors to acquire that attention.

Pablo Picasso is widely quoted as having said “good artists borrow, great artists steal.”

Want more attention for your brand, then create more compelling visual stories. Watch the attached videos, incorporate what you believe your ideal prospects will respond to, then create your own visual stories to grab their attention.

The American Marketing Association says:

Studies show that the average consumer is exposed to up to 10,000 brand messages a day. And as marketers are presented with more and more channels to reach their customers, that number is growing rapidly.

Consumers switch between screens up to 21 times an hour according to a British study, which correlates with Microsoft’s claim that the average person’s attention span is now just eight seconds.

5 Powerful Habits of the Wealthiest Salespeople

5 Powerful Habits of the Wealthiest Salespeople | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it

You probably have 25 to-dos to complete today -- and if you get through all of those tasks, you probably aren’t going to be any richer than you were when you woke up this morning.

Art Jones's insight:

This post is for marketing & salespeople. I know there are many marketers that are in marketing because they do not like the pressure on the sales side of the business. There are salespeople that say, who needs marketing because they believe salespeople are all you need to make sales happen. Ok, so let's be clear about a few things:

(a) In business if you're not selling something (product, service or an idea) it's not a business it's a hobby.

(b) if you are in marketing today your job is to sell something

(c) if you're in sales and you do not know how to market yourself, your company and products you represent, well it's time to learn how.

Now that's out of the way let's talk about the kind of habits that provide maximum value to anyone responsible for selling anything.

This article suggests there are 5 things that super salespeople focus on every day.  I know when I'm building new habits that I must focus on building that habit. So I reviewed the list looking for the one habit that would deliver the most value. I selected habit number 5.

Excerpt:

Habit #5

You probably have 25 to-dos to complete today -- and if you get through all of those tasks, you probably aren’t going to be any richer than you were when you woke up this morning.

You also have some key outcomes that you’d like to achieve, such as developing new relationships with ideal prospects, closing large sales and renewing existing accounts.

However, you keep letting to-dos you view as “urgent” distract you from those outcomes that matter most. Rich salespeople don’t make that mistake. Toss out your to-do list, and focus on the outcomes that make you money.

Oskar Almazan's curator insight, November 1, 2017 8:13 AM
En marketing, a great image is often a key component of the message. Constant need for pictures can dig deep into your pocket when using stock photography. If you want a particular image, then it makes sense to pay for the stock images as it will be a lot cheaper than to hire a photographer. What to do when you need images all the time, but their marketing lifespan can be measured only in days, maybe hours? Images for Facebook posts, email newsletters, individual slides in presentations that you use only once… Paying 10 or 20 dollars per image for these adds up. So where do you get free images? I have collected a bunch of sites that give you exactly that… free images for commercial use.

Art Jones's insight:

Excerpt:

"Visuals are growing in importance. From advertising to entertainment, from highway signs to retail store displays, visuals dominate. As Paul Martin Lester, Ph.D., professor at California State University at Fullerton, writes, "Images . . . fill our newspapers, magazines, books, clothing, billboards, computer monitors and television screens as never before in the history of mass communications." As a result, "We are becoming a visually mediated society. For many, understanding of the world is being accomplished, not through reading words, but by reading images."

Many of the answers are pretty vanilla, because they do not provide any revelatory ideas. Then there are some ideas which make you raise an eyebrow and put an index finger on your temple as you think, hmmmm, very interesting.

2018 Will Be The Year Of AI: Actual Intelligence, Not Artificial Intelligence (yet). Mike Marcellin, Chief Marketing Officer, Juniper Networks

A Salesforce survey reported that Artificial Intelligence use among marketers will grow more than 50% in the next two years. While AI holds promise for marketing, I think we’re a few years away from AI having material impact on marketing outcomes. In 2018, we’ll see Actual Intelligence – enabled by analytics and automation – take the place of guesswork and allow marketers to be more targeted and quickly pivot as they identify tactics that move the needle.
