The Psychological Consequences of Fame

The Psychological Consequences of Fame | How is fame Affecting the way Celebrities Act? | Scoop.it
When Fame Becomes Crazy-Making
Ita Tannian's insight:

John Lennon, Elvis Presley, and Kurt Cobain were all famous singer/songwriters. They are all also dead. fame was a huge impact in all their lives. Starting with Lennon who enjoyed fame early on but then dropped it because it was too much and he had troubles even making it up on stage. Then comes Elvis who was known as "white trash" singing "nigger music". Elvis often got angry and had anxiety and jokes, drugs, and women were the only things that seemed to calm him very much. Especially after the death of his mother would Elvis' lady friends act more as mothers in helping him. As his career went in he seemed to pull away from a liking for fame. But is that what killed him? It is possible but most believe he blamed himself for the death of his mother and he couldn't bear it any longer. Next is Kurt Cobain. He never cared for the fame, in fact he was an introvert who felt fame pushed him closer and closer to the edge. He committed suicide leaving only a note apologizing to his but also saying he couldn't fake the act anymore. All of these men Seemed to lose their appreciation for fame because it changed them into people they weren't prepared to become.

I think also that this article makes a good point. Fame has an undoutable effect on musicians and actors, shown through many things, like their clothing or what they do in public. I think that if a person is thinking that what they want to be when they get older is a singer or an actress they should re evaluate their choices in life because it is very unlikely that anyone will make it big in hollywood. Thinking on on a semi more positive side I think that it would be an extreme pressure being famous because you are constantly thinking about what your fans would think about your actions.

The Danger of Fame | Catholic Business Journal

Ita Tannian's insight:

The truth is fame is a danger. It is easily seen in people all around us. Celebrities  are letting it enter their minds that just because this terrible incident happened to someone else doesn't mean it'll happen to them And the general public is beginning to feel the same way. whether these celebrities are cheating, neglecting their children, drinking, or overdosing on drugs they are bringing out bad influences to the people around them, these role models are becoming less and less of someone to appreciate and more of people to feel pity upon. Yet the children of today don't know that. They want to grow up to be just like these celebrities. Magazines cover stories about these actors, actresses, and singers. They enter their lives and fish until they can find the most news breaking story. These peoples lives are almost vandalized by it. the youth reads about this and thinks of it as cool because their favorite singer did it. Yet if they were see a random person do it and read about it in the newspaper it would be idiotic. The whole idea of fame puts one person better than another but in the end is it really better to have to deal with the problems and dangers of fame? These magazines should come with warning signs. We need to thank God for the gifts we have and not strive for luxuries such as fame without understanding the true circumstances that come with it.

Britney Jean Spears was born in Kentwood, Louisiana. She sang in her local church's choir and was known as a sweetheart. She started her career by being apart if the hit show "The Mickey Mouse Club". She went on the start a music career and hit fame with the release of her song "... Baby One More Time". The young singer/songwriter became America's sweetheart and was the first to have three albums hit number one on the Billboard Top 200. But soon enough the fame began to go to Britney's head starting with her lip lock with Madonna. She began to go down hill and after to failed marriages she went through depression and being named the"worst mother" and  and was sent to rehab. She began to make a comeback but it wasn't enough. Spears the  continued with her crazy behavior including shaving her head. She had gone from. Umber 1 to zero.  Based on this article it is easy to see that Britney let the thought of fame consume her. She is a direct example of how fame can cause extreme behavioral issues if you do not control it's affect on you.  Britney faced difficulties because of the constant pull towards making one's self noticed by others and in the end, she suffered the most.

The Fame Motive - New York Times

The Fame Motive - New York Times | How is fame Affecting the way Celebrities Act? | Scoop.it
Psychologists are discovering what propels people who seek fame above all else.
Ita Tannian's insight:

Wanting to be wealthy and successful and fame-seeking are to different things. Fame is one of the most sought after prices in the game of life. It is the thought of people caring about you and wanting everything to do with you. The thought of fame is found as a main goal or daydream in about 30%-40% of American adults and the rate in teenagers is even greater.  But even with all the awards that fame can bring, psychologist and scholars still see that it can eat at a person. The lack of privacy can cause a sense of always being watched. Celebrities can start to go insane and feel very uncomfortable in separate citations . The suicide rate of celebrities is actually quite high co larded to that of people living normal lives. The though. Of losing fame can also cause traumatic experiences in celebrities including drinking and drugs. They've worked hard to get where they are and don't want to loose it and so they try to enter the headlines and gain more fame. Many people become so obsessed with fame they can't a it until death so they can live a second life of fame. The motive of fame doesn't seem to fade in many people because they want it so bad and it takes control becoming a main priority within them.

Does Fame Have A Positive Or Negative Influence On An Artist’s Music?

Does Fame Have A Positive Or Negative Influence On An Artist’s Music? | How is fame Affecting the way Celebrities Act? | Scoop.it
Ita Tannian's insight:

Fame is a tricky concept. It  can cause people to become insanely different from who they were before. Artists such as Beyonce and Adele stayed true to there roots whereas other artists such as Justin Bieber let fame and fans get to his head. Bands break up because if fame going to one or more of the members head. Music videos and live performances become less and less tolerated and more described as unprofessional. The thought of how fame is acting through people is easily in today's society. What most people think of as a goal in life is actually more of a danger. Musicians don't realize the affect of fame. Music that started out as real moments being captured in lyrics has become all about sex and drugs. It sends bad images into the minds of the youth today and it is affecting all of us everyday. Today's role models are losing their positive affect on teens and it is causing major problems In the world around us. The true realization about fame's affect on people is that it is not like a disease more of something that artists let control them. The only person who can stop it is the artists themselves.
