Autotune was originally used to find oil! - OMG Facts

Autotune was originally used to find oil! - OMG Facts | How Autotune has effected the industry negatively and positively | Scoop.it
Autotune has become a must in the contemporary pop music industry. Everyone from Justin Beiber to Lil Wayne uses it to fix their off key vocals. It's most liberal use was perhaps in Rebecca Black's 2011 debut ''Friday.'' And of ...
Jesse Isaac Tunstall's insight:

This article contains a brief history of how Autotune was created. The reason for why Autotune was created has deviated quite far from it's original intent. Autotune was originally created to smooth over flat or sharp notes in a song, not to fix entire recording sessions. It still blows my mind that Autotune was invented from oil rigging techniques.

More Proof The Music Industry Is Fake - YouTube

Jesse Isaac Tunstall's insight:

This video shows a very dark side of Autotune. Today most singers rely on Autotune to make their voices sound good instead of actually working out their vocals. I found the content of this video disgusting in so many ways. The fact that people pay for albums and concerts for a person who is just fabricated talent really makes me angry. It even makes me question wanting to go into the music industry, but maybe I can change it, maybe I can be different.

Jesse Isaac Tunstall's insight:

This article discuses some of the positive uses for Autotune. Autotune can be used in moderation to enhance a vocal performance. Although Autotune can sometimes be used as a crutch, there is a misconception that it is used as a cure all for bad vocal artists, this isn't exactly true. Even with the use of Autotune, the artist has to have some form of vocal talent. Autotune isn't magic and it doesn't fix everything.

This article basically provides one of the pro-Anti-Tune views, albeit with a slight diversion near the end. A bit insightful, albeit with a view some readers don't necessarily agree with. This being a music site, I think it's pretty resourceful and accurate.

Here is another topic on the pros and cons of using Auto-tune in the industry how some accept it uses and some prefer uses of other techniques and software that can give the same effect and change it up a little.

Definitely pointing out a few pros and cons of autotune. me, myself am not a big fan of autotune but how it is described in this article producers and artists all alike are using it to where its becoming more of a-more-necessary tool than not.

Anyone can sing with Auto-Tune

WCPO-9 News anchor Tanya O'Rourke puts auto-tune technology to the test. Read the full story at https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/can-auto-tune-make-a-pop...
Jesse Isaac Tunstall's insight:

This video proves that Autotune can be a useful tool while fixing voices. It concludes that while Autotune can fix a voice it cannot make somebody with absolutely no vocal talent appear to have talent. I think using Autotune sparingly is okay, but once it takes over the raw sound of an artist, it should not be used.

The T-Pain Effect: How Auto-Tune Ruined Music... And Saved Hip-Hop - Complex.com

The T-Pain Effect: How Auto-Tune Ruined Music...
Jesse Isaac Tunstall's insight:

This article discusses how Autotune was first discovered, what it was intended to do and how it evolved over time. The article makes an interesting comparison, it states that Autotune is just the modern day electric guitar. In its day, the electric guitar was thought of as unnatural, and distortion was a crutch for musicians who couldn't really play. The article also discusses how T-Pain changed pop music by exploring a different side of Autotune. I believe that people have the rite to record and listen to anything they want, and if their choice is the cookie cutter pop music that copies the original, then so be it. I don't think what T-Pain did was wrong, but I do think he created an Autotune monster that has been reproducing unoriginal artist in a pop industry that is hard to stand out in.
